The One GF You SHOULD NOT USE
The one and only GF you should not use, is surprisingly, the one that is ment to protect you, Carbuncle. Carbuncle will cast any spells casted on the player to the enmy and the spell casted on the player doesn't work. EVERY spell. That includes Esuna, Cure, Cura, and Curaga. So not only does it reflect all negative spells, it also reflects all positive spells. So if you have Carbuncle, and you like using him, hope you have a lot of Elixirs/Mega Potions/X-Potions/Potions/Potion +'s/ Hi-Potions and/or Phoenix Downs, cause if you do use Carbuncle, you're gonna need em.

Turbo mode helps with that... kinda

I have to laugh you guys actualy use GFs? by the time I reach galbadia garden for first time Squall does 9999.

Squal aura boom insta win

Sure they don't compare to auto-attacks/limit spam but people can play how they wan't, some find it fun to use GF's.

I've always thought one of the biggest problems with this game was the lack of high physical resist enemies, from memory there's only a handful so everyone ends up playing the game the same way. Though to be fair this is the case with most games in the series.

@Emperor, the game forces you to play one way. If you use too much magic you can't junction. If you use GF too much your SeeD rank goes down and at times GF attack is locked. So pure attack. Plus you junction magic to attack.

but if you dont use your GF's enough they will be slow to cast and not level. Basically you do everything sparingly without ingoring anything. Spam gf's for some boss fights, use many attacks on regular fights and always stock up on magic.

Also many dont know this even occurs, but gf's will grow affection toward the character that uses it, so try to keep the same gf's to the characters that use it. This is especially hard since the game removes everything at several points where you have to rejunction it all.

Also Aura+Mashing the Skip Attack button (circle on ps1) = overpowered.

Seriously, for selphie this can mean getting THE END, which kills anything on screen including bosses immediatly except final boss cause its hp resets a bunch to avoid an easy kill.
When you get Rinoa, DONT TEACH HER ANYTHING, only have the dog learn invincible moon and for the love of all that is holy dont teach her angel wing. Just learn invincible moon and she will always make the party literally freaking invincible.

Aura the entire party, Cast invincible moon, spam special attacks or keep using selphies slot till the end comes up.... Win. You can cheese omega weapon and ultima weapon this way.

Thats what i love about ff8, its so crazy how you can construct these battles.

I never tried that with Rinoa. I recently started playing FF8 again.
It's interesting how hard the game is without knowing these tricks. With these tricks the game is far too easy.

oh yeah, my first time through ff8 it took me 4 hours to beat the final boss, now i can do it in 15 minutes with NO FEAR of ever dying. Knowledge is true power in ff8.

Your GFs always earn experience when your characters do as long as they're junctioned, even if they're not used.

There's a lot that affects your characters' compatibility with their GFs. Basically if you don't want the compatibility of certain GFs to drop too much, don't have that character summon GFs of the opposite element to them a lot (ie if you wan't Squall's compatibility with Quetzecotl to stay high, don't summon Leviathan with him too much).

Although, really, as long as you summon them every now and then, they should never drop too much.

or you can use items and feed GF's them to raise compatibility as well. FF8 really does have a ton of ways to play.

Honestly, all gfs are pointless to summon. Just use diablo's no-encounter and pair your magic well and you can go through the whole game with regular attacks. Staying at a low level will keep enemies weak, and random encounters are a chore anyway.

I just stay at a low level by turning every enemy into Cards and refine Gilgamesh's card for 10 Holy Wars, game becomes easy af. If somehow 10 Holy Wars isn't enough for beating everything you can even get more Gilgamesh cards on disc 4 by going to the airship. Letting Chocobo World idle also gets you a ton of OP items like Dark Matter and Friendship. Didn't even have to bother farming the ultimate weapons for anyone.
true if you use carbuncle to cast reflect you can still use fire ice and thunder and any negative spells just cast it on your self it will reflect and hit the enemy i'm not sure about positive spells if you can cast refelt on the enemy and cast cures on them but you always have potions and if your into triple triad and you have angelo refine him for 100 elixers that should last the whole game and if you beat quistes in triple triad the club will be in the space ship and you can replenish your refined cards. and i love triple triad especialy after getting rid of all the stuped rules.
