Some will like her because she wears her heart on her sleeve and tries her best but i think a lot of people don't like her because she seems to just be using people to get what she wants, using her looks and feminine wiles to do so. Seifer is a pretty good example of this, he wanted him to be her "Knight" and when that didn't work out she moved on to squall instead.
Now you could look at her as a total skank who will hit on any hot dude with a cool sword she finds or a 16 year old love struck teenager living in the moment, those who would chose the former probably developed a pretty bleak view of people and relationships at some point in their life.
Just my 2c
(Sorry for any spelling errors. No spellcheck on Steam...)
ummm Irvine is no SeeD he is a sharpshooter, also he is from Galbadia garden and iirc you don't ever fight a Galbadian SeeD, just the army who are using the garden as a base, so I am not sure why you think that Galbadia is second rate.
As for no fighting ability story wise, well she does become a sorceress and from the fights against them you could assume she could fight, also she confronts Edea alone and without her Squall would have been stuck in the desert prison and Irvine would not have come to help.
I kinda forgot about that. Are you sure Balamb is the only Garden with SeeD? What about the White SeeD Ship? Are they originally from Balamb?
Galbadia is second rate. It's like Special Operations vs Special Forces. SeeD are about to take on like several Galbadian forces at a time. Also the sorcerer went after Galbadia, not Balamb, because Balamb would have been able to fight her off. (Or maybe tactical geographical location, but I like the first reason better.)
She was too terrified to fight without help after she tried to put of pennat on pendant Edea, but it was still brave of her, but she wasn't willing to fight alone. So It's debatable.
I wish we knew where Trabia stood among the other three gardens. Though I'm not sure the ship counts as a garden.
Obviously Tribia has SeeD if their members are being tested for it. The same thing happens all the time with the real military forces.
Yes, youre right. I just remembered if Galbadia had SeeD then Sephier would have tortured a Galbadia member rather than Squall. I also remember that Irvine claimed to have barely used GFs before transfering to Squall his team. Apparently Balamb uses GFs more than any other garden or maybe even anyone else on earth.
I dont think Selphie ever expresses her usage of GFs before (unofficially) joining (and permanently staying with) Balamb.
Did you ever find it strange that at Balamb they use GFs so much that at the beginning of the game you could forget your GFs on the computer until Quistis tells you to get them? It seems strange that that much power is freely given to teenagers.
White SeeD are of course SeeD it is in the name :) and no they are not from Balamb they were created by Edea though.
Galbadia garden does not train SeeD it trains advanced weapon specialists and the sorceress went after them because Galbadia is a nation with an army that she could gain control of, Balamb has no army, also Galbadia garden works under the Galbadia government, Balamb garden is independent.
I don't recall ever seeing a Trabia garden SeeD and if they had them then why was Selphie not transferred back after the Dollet mission? She does seem to love the place, so I find myself (strangely) siding with Mudcrab merchant.
Selphie admits that she used a GF before meeting any of the group at Balamb, this is said in Trabia garden iirc on the basketball court.
Yeah power giving memory stealing demons, how did I forget those lol
Yes the game does state that Edea and Cid concieved the idea for SeeD, but do watch/re-watch the ending scene where Squall gets back to the past with Edea and Ultimecia, you will notice this, Squall tells Edea what SeeD are and she even figures out that he is from the future, an example of a time loop as no one concieved SeeD, Edea knows what they are and what they do because Squall tells her in the past, Squall knows what SeeD are because Edea told Cid in the future, who told Squall
This next paragraph is just my interpretation of the ending. Ultimecia wins, she gets time compression, just watch the ending and think of what she is trying to achieve, she wants a world where time never changes and she is the ruler, she also wants SeeD to suffer. Well time never changes because she creates a loop, remember the ending? She sends her power back to Edea after being defeated, you know from earlier in the game that is how Edea got her powers and was the start of the whole problem so by allowing her to pass them on Squall just completes the circle of time created by Ultimecia and thus makes her the destined ruler of the world, as you have ssen in her time she is alone and all powerful and as time is a circle by this point she can forever know that she will rule again, as for making SeeD suffer, what better way then to have them live out the same circle and forever feel like they have achieved only to realise that they themselves are to blame for the sorceress passing on her powers more than once (if only you hadn't kicked Edea in maybe Rinoa could have been a simple girl)
I never got that at the end. I never realized how time went full circle by having Squall tell Edea about SeeD.
Yeah I got that Galbadia garden was for that country, but the game doesn't give us country lines. It's the same thing with FF7. If they remake these games that is something they should do. I know Balamb is independent, but they do have good relations with Balamb city since they go in and out of the city like they own it, and Balamb was quick to help them when Seipher's friends took it over (I forget their names.)
So was Lugana part of Galbadia garden?
I suppose your ending makes sense since if you travel outside the castle on disk 4 you'll see dead white SeeD and all the cities have domes to guard themselves from her. It's a convincing theory, but I don't buy it.
I favor that there are several sorcerors, so Edea may not have only had that one, but at the loop she did have it. I favor Squall met Edea because that is where his memories took him. Remember he had to go to an early part of life since the GFs screw with his memory.
I suppose your argument has merit considering the balance of government powers has changed thanks to the sorceror and SeeD. Governments may now dislike SeeD, but at the same time a powerful country like Esther would back them, so it's an intriguing issue.
People may hate that what makes Balamb independent; that they act like mercenaries. People may also be upset that such young adults are so powerful. I mean one of the people on the Squall team could fight a platoon on their own.
If I got so far in 7 days at this rate the end of the game is probably less than 3 months long.
I believe the country lines are simply the different continents, not really sure though as you are right and the games never show you the exact lines.
Yeah Balamb do seem to like to 'Team America' a situation lol the friends are Fujin and Rajin iirc
Laguna was part of the Galbadian army, not the garden (iirc he was part of the army before Garden even existed)
Yeah im not trying to make believers with my views on the ending, just my own views is all :)
The thing with Esthar is they seem to like privacy, for a country with flying ships who explore space. In Squall's time they don't seem to be known by any other nation but remember Laguna and his friends? What nation is Galbadia at war with? Oh yeah Esthar.... did the whole world forget that a war had taken place with a country that had space travel?
Yeah now that you have pointed out it was a week to get to FH.... how long is the whole story supposed to be? Because that is crazy short and your 3 month or less guess seems logical to me.
Its been fun speaking with you so far and good to read these different views :)
Once I play it again I'll follow the timelines to see how long the base game is (unincluding the side quest GFs). With the draw system and stuff like that it is easy to miss how short the game's timeline is. Though it makes sense that you go to Dollot where Biggs and Wedge are messing the the attenna dish and later at Timber Seifer attacks the president.
Galbadia and Esther may have fought, but that doesn't mean that the people of Galbadia are constantly thinking about Esther. For all we know they had to land by ship or fly to Esther to fight them. We don't know if they know about the secret entrance in. It's an old enough game that if you travel the world after you go to Esther not everyone's dialogue has change to accomodate that. For something like that it would be great to see a modern version of the game.
If Galbadia garden is newer like Balamb's maybe there were geopolitical things that writers were drawing from. Whoever the writers felt have gullible people and a formidable military.
Why do you think Irvine didn't side with Galbadia garden when the two gardens fought? Does he ever say anything about it?
I recently read All You Need is Kill the book the movie Edge of Tomorrow is adapted from. In the author (who is Japanese) creates a world slightly in the future. Japan is the most technologically advanced, but America still has the best technology. Perhaps Balamb garden was supposed to be a version of America that sees itself as that world leader. Esther would rather safely stay away from all of it.
If Balamb garden was America it would explain the mercenaries plot, incompotent Cid, blowback, why garden was focused on helping cities like Balamb instead of going straight for the enemy. I could be 100% and thats a huge generalization that I don't completely agree with, but its just a thought.
