Do I need to play Triad?
Is it possible to never play triple triad and still get the ultimate weapons, and almost all other very good items in the game?

The reason why I am asking this is because I really hate TT.

basically u can play ff8 2 ways, with or without doing triad. With doing triad you can get some insane stats at the start of the game and 1 shot most bosses with stuff like triple attached to your strength which you dont get much much later. It also helps becuase you can get stats like auto-haste on everyone and become a badass and auto-protect ti become more or less unkillable. However if you do play doing triad perpare to spend A LOT of time into it. I mean It becomes so addicting and annoying becuase u need to keep on reloading to set the right rules and not lose rare cards. If you play the game without doing triad which is what i would suggest through your first playthrough prepare to spend A LOT of times drawing of monsters which gets really boring if you want good stats. My time doing my first walkthrough took about 40 hours but with triad im still on disc 1 and have about 15-20 so yeah...
As i said, do traid for a long time but get better stats quicker or draw for a long time to get better stats, your choice. You can also look up a guide on a FAQ or whatever to do traid but as squall would say "whatever".
However if your doing a squall lvl 7 run then triad is a requirement as you will die painfully if you do not.

note: sorry for bad spelling lol :P

I'd rather do the second option since I find drawing addicting somehow. But thanks for the Triad guide if I need it.

no prob man i did drawing my first playthrough and it does come addicting but a tip for you is that if you are just drawing and using an xbox controller then use cellotape and watch tv so it doesnt feel like forever

You can also use refine skills for getting magic, TT and draw are not your only options.

I'm actually using keyboard. But thanks for the tip if I ever use a controller.

I don't hate it. I just find it hard to do. I mostly lose in my battles. PLUS I don't want to lose my high leveled cards that I got from GF's.
RagnarokAeon May 24, 2014 @ 9:35am
I actually get most of my cards from Quetzcoatl's Card ability. I also don't actually start playing until I've at least got Ifrit's card. Yeah, it's possible to win with ♥♥♥♥♥♥ cards you start with, but that's a hard game that will turn most people off of it.
