Just download and install FFNX, then use hobbitur mod installer.
1-Uninstall the game
2-Remove all its related folders whether in:
C:\Users\Hi\Documents\Square Enix
or the main folder in:
--Steam\steamapps\common
3-Install the game.
4- Follow this guy's step by step it's a matter of drag and drop:

I know the video is outdated but it's easy to follow just make sure you install the latest when it comes to the Tonberry (Enhanced v2.04) or the mods themselves:

The link above is for mods of this version, the Steam version, the remaster version has a different link with similar content that will not work for this version don't get confused.
You might try first one mod (ex. AngelWing for the backgrounds) to see if it's working or not of course after installing Tonberry v2.04. Then one at a time.
In the tonberry folder once you install it there'll be a hashmap folder where hashmaps of the mods reside(assuming you installed them) and there you can disable or enable the mods by simply drag and drop the hashmap of the mod you want to disable into the disabled folder or vice versa if you wanna enable it.

Mago, Devina or the upscaled (original but upscaled)
I chose Mago just for a change and it looks cool.
Now that you have the mods you can add reshaders. The game looks more beautiful with the reshades just try to tinker around it and see what best suits you here's an example:

Just a suggestion.
As for the FPS issue in the battle, I have no idea how to do it.
