Hi

This error message seems to be coming up for different reason on the discussion page and the solutions they suggest (1.2 patch, making the Launcher application a priority, turning off steamcloud) haven't worked for me.

My problem starts from launch of the actual game (FF8_EN.exe). I start up the launcher (FF8_Launcher.exe) and that works fine, however on launch ("play") it does two things:
Firstly it disregards any changes made in settings - ie my screen size is 1920x1080 but it reverts to 640x480 and it ignores any keyboard changes such that on the Newgame/ Continue menu page my changes do nothing, (but FF8_EN.exe still brings up the keyboard menu as if it did recognise the keyboard changes).
Secondly, it fails to launch when you press "new game". When I press this (using the standard keyboard functions), it goes to a black screen with the windows loop, I exit through Task Manager and it says that FF8 has stopped working. :(

My Windows 7 is up to date as is my driver (GeForce GTX760) and my computer should have the specs to run this just fine. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling and no joy either. I have no mods on either (ie no Tonberry mod).

Event viewer gave me an error code of the following

I hear the 0xc0000005 error is a bummer to fix and I'm not that tech savy.

Also of note, on another discussion it mentioned that I should see in the _CommonRedist three folders: DirectX, DotNet and vcredist. I don't have the DotNet folder.

I too am having this problem. I would love to play this game again but I am stuck with this error.

ok, what worked for me was to go to the ffxviii launcher and run in compatibility mode for windows 7 and run as administrator. I am using windows 10.

Thanks for the suggestion, problem is I'm on Windows 7 already and it's not working....I've also tried older compatibility one's and that doesn't work either. :(

Any more suggestions from anyone welcomed!

How do I check for corrupted files? (and correct any if I find them)? I have tried reinstalling and that didn't sort it. :(

Tried to solve this issue myself nearly a whole week. There are many suggestions in the forum. Did any work for you? The game is unplayable for MANY. And their refund policy is a joke.

Here's an idea, does anyone know what the full installation size is? We should compare to that

OK, after 3 days of trying different things, I managed to get it working by doing this:

-Open Game properties on the steam shortcut
-Browse to Local Files
-Right Click FF8_Launcher.exe
-Choose compatibility tab
-Go to bottom and check Run this program as administrator

-Do the same for FF8_EN.exe

Run the game.


Now all other methods of running it as an admin did not work but this one did. Setting affinity did not work for me either, neither did running it in any compat mode. So there's the solution, at least for my version of this issue.

Ok guys, i know this post is 2016 and now is almost 2019 BUT i have a solution:

Problem is game directory is the way too long so just copy the game folder to the disk root and manualy execute the launcher.

Dont matter if run as admin or not, dont matter the cpu setup, etc. This works for me every time i launch the game.

You need hardware accelerated OpenGL. glfw is a framework for OpenGL.

My computer knowledge is limited. I thank you for the info and I can follow set by step instructions and have been able to repair things using solutions online, but I have no idea what OpenGL or how to do do what I need to do. If you can give me a bit more info and/or throw in a few steps to follow I will greatly appreciated it, thank you!
