Any way to stop the timer?
I'm against that robot spider that pursue you while you have the 30 minutes time limit and read online he only auto repairs 5 times before you can actually kill him

What I missed however, it's that it's 5 times per battle, not over battles

So after letting him regen 6 times and went wtf, now I'm fighting him with 8 minutes left, game paused, and absolutely no way to let him recover 11 times and still be in time

Since I don't want to get punished for not grinding for strong skills before even the first quest of the game, is there anyway I can freeze the timer with cheat engine or anything? I really want this thing dead and while I spammed saving everytime I had a chance, this time I didn't cause "oh 30 minutes it's a lot what can go wrong", holy moly

In the option put the speed of battle to the max, it will help to get everything faster.
If this is not enough, with F2 you can activate the "Battle Assistance", giving you INF Limit Break.

Technically you can keep slamming it with 9999 damage but the plot requires you to run away.

No if you deal 9999 damage the spider will die, as he has 5000 hp and regen 5 times once dropped to 4000, it's even killable while he regens
Not sure its health scales tho

That's literally what I said in the post tho, when I realized all those things I asked how to stop the timer

Thanks for the post but honestly, I knew all of that, just too late lol

Nice tip on the repair sequence getting delayed by attacks, it's logical after all but didn't realize, ty

Only for the first time you fight it.

As I understand it, after that first fight, it has 3 to 5 "lives".
When you beat it down 3 to 5 times (in one battle), it stops repairing itself, and you can outright destroy it.

You also get a bonus 100 points on the SeeD exam for killing it.
Enough points to potentially negate one of the 5 categories you may have messed up in during the exam.

To be optimal without cheating, just run in the first encounter when people tell you to (you won't loose point on your seed rank if it is the only escape you did during the mission). Then, make a second encounter and finish this ♥♥♥♥♥ spider. I highly recommend to have drawn 300 doubles from Sulfura before, so you can junction this powerful magic to str or mag. Also, launch double on you casters during the second battle so it goes faster. Personnaly, i waited the spider was repaired 100% to use 4 thunder on it so it goes down instant without having time to attack.
The battle has to be fast so you loose less points for your seed rank.
Oh and something lot of people do not think about : you can put ATB charging time to max in the settings, so the fight goes faster while the timer stay 30 min.

If you want to start seed level 10, this guide will help you a lot : https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/ps/197343-final-fantasy-viii/faqs/19029
Btw, others guides on this website are worth reading too ;)

Care on something : i've seen many guides that tells, once Ifrit beaten, to wait timer goes to 0 (suggesting even more) before confirming Ifrit name's. It's totally wrong !! Yes, you won t have the gameover but you will have 0 on this part of your exam, so basically 2 levels less =(. The thing is : you have to wait between 7sec and 0 sec before clicking "confirm" to get the 100 points in this part. If you are 1 second too late, you will get 0 and you won't know it until end of the exam ! It's mean, right ? ^^

Same as above-- F1 to speed up fights, F2 for healing/all limits, F3 for 9999 attack damage.

Just inflict enough damage until he repairs himself then run away. I haven't played FF8 in many years and I don't think you can kill him as he gets destroyed in a Cinematic anyway.

As was mentioned, you can kill the robot, providing an alternate ending for the mission.
You just can't do it on the first fight, as it's scripted.
After that, in the next fight, it'll get back up a few times, but then you can kill it.

It's just really hard to do in the time allotted, and you don't get to see Quistis shooting a machine gun.
(...On a side note, I'm still kinda shocked that Quistis was hated despite that cutscene. I thought a lot of guys drooled over the thought of hot women shooting guns?)

I've heard that you get 100 bonus points for killing it, which is enough to cancel out a failure in one category.
