Square Enix Account

Reading older posts here indicates that a Square Enix account is required to play this game. Is this still true? And if yes, why is it not mentioned as a requirement on the Steam page of the game? It is mentioned for FF7, for example.

I haven't heard of this. I just bought and downloaded the game this sale and it works just fine. No extra accounts needed

This is good news - thanks. The posts I mentioned are a couple of years old, and I thought it might be worth asking.
According to the game description, FF7 still needs an account - it's probably hard-coded and not feasible to remove. Luckily I still have the original CDs.

I think I remember doing a square enix account waaaay bak when I bought FF7 for steam. But I wasn't required to login on it for any other game I bought of the franchise here or even when I logged on other computers..

For anyone reading this I bought it like 15 minutes ago and was asked to make a square enix account to play it.
Refunded it already, not interested in getting their spam mail. Not to mention if I need to hunt for the account no and password every time I wanna play it.
Wish they'd just be upfront on the store page so I didn't waste my time downloading it.

Is "it" FF7 or FF8?
The Steam page of FF7 does say "Requires a Square Enix account". As far as I know it's a one-time registration, no need to log in actively for every session. Whether you can play it offline, or what happens when you want to install and play it on a different PC, I don't know.

So I downloaded the game earlier today, but I cant play it yet as I'm still waiting for my square enix account. I created an account, but I still have not gotten the verification email from them. When I tryed creating another account it says the email is already used... So now I have payed for a game I cant play. If I would have known this SE account was required I wouldnt have bought the damn game.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Have you checked for spam? My verification e-mail was dumped there.

It's a one time login dude, it doesn't ask me to login everytime i play it

Yeah, I checked the spam folder, no email. I asked for a refund. Its a shame too, I was looking forward to getting all the FF games. The whole Square Enix account deal killed that.

yall can goto the Square Enix page thru your simple web browser i think< but anyway i used the option on the page to login thru steam somewhere (hehe i dont remember what i did exactly) but after i did that just filled in a few blanks an a feasable password an it was all done tho after words you gotta close the game an relaunch it an you should be auto logged in thru steam after that any time you launch it from steam<

For me, everything works with an SE account created for the original 7 release, maybe not counting only the original 8, because I have 8 in the remastered version.
