GF give you stat to upgrade (HP, Def, etc...) and need AP (gain after every fight) to learn abilites (stat to upgrade (HP, Def, etc...) , boost (like HP +20%) or new command (like Card) )
Magic give you stat (Cure on HP for exemple), more stat with 100 cure than 10 (draw magic from ennemies or with refine)
in fact, there are tutorials early game to explain that...
and for the control layout, you have a mod to fix it
Now, what really gets my goat are the lack of appropriate ported controls. A problem facing Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Editions PC players. The solution was to use a controller or mods..
The mods that exist here didn't work for me and I have a tremendous amount of experience copy/pasting mods, editing .ini files and even more hardcore coding if necessary.
After going through the mod instructions 3 times, I'd noticed that I didn't miss anything.
Regardless, the controls shouldn't need to be modded; Merely ported properly.. this is a lazy PC port with sugar coating dirt... it's an insult to the game and the original developers.
Edit: I get that FF8 is a little odd, but if you warm up to it you can easily come to appreciate it. SE sets out to change every FF game with something new. Whether you like it or not is debatable, but you can make it work and thus it doesn't warrant a complaint.
And it moves like twice as fast as 9, jesus that game is just too slow. On the scale of JRPGs you have Final Fantasy 8 which would be like, Mario Kart, then you have 9 which is like Big Bumpin, and then something like Suikoden which would be F-Zero. Hot damn.
Though I am biased towards FF8, after all I played it at the same time as 7, 8, 9 and Tactics yet 8 is my favorite of them so there is obviously nostalgia involved. Just not for the other three, only 8. Yeah, its science.
