Censorship in FF8 Remaster.
If you think Squeenix would stop at censoring Tifa in FF7 Remake, think again.
Judging by the trailer in FF8 Remaster Rinoa's cleavage and Selphie's magic cast camera movements are censored.
Most likely something else.

Was anyone seriously expecting them to have Siren with a bared bush? They could get away with it before with just a polygon down there.

You try to keep distracting us from genuine conversation and you try to make us more hateful of that which is greater than what we got in the past. The Remaster is just terrible period so I think we should focus more on that. Plus, these models are just from Dissidia apparently, so the complaint should be more about laziness. However, it is just worthless to argue about Square Enix in general since they mostly do all the bad decisions they want without receiving feedback from us.

I hope you realize the irony of your statement and how dumb it sounds. Tell me how do you expect to have a conversation when censorship exists?? A tyrannical government waving censorship around like a weapon like north Korea does, basically means freedom of speech and liberty of thought are GONE. Sure they censor games now but what's next? the philosophy behind this is the same.

With all this complaint about censorship, you'd think they splashed some blinding censor bars, threw in some blurred spots, completely redesigned characters, or cut out parts of the games.

But oh no, they brought Rinoa's shirt an inch higher, CENSORSHIP!!!

Did you even play the game, have you seen Shiva? Yeah, I think it's just how the artist reworking the new textures drew it. And yeah, they might have added some more feathers because the high res version was starting to look a bit too much like bush. Could you make an argument for that being censorship? Maybe, but that's at the same level of logic bending inflation that an SJW would use to justify a man talking to her at a bar without her consent is literal rape.

And don't get me started on the people who complain about not being able to enjoy the original art. Just get the original version, though the people complaining probably already have that. It's not like they are recalling the disks to make changes to it and banning you from playing the original version. You know, like ACTUAL censorship.

But hey you know, we shouldn't be allowed to purchase and enjoy an updated version game because it doesn't follow the OCD nitpicks of some individuals, ironic really. Makes me wonder if people really understand what censorship is anymore. With all the actual censorship problems, especially with Sony, this kind of outcry is what censorship advocates will point to as a strawman of how gamers are overreacting to censorship.

Censorship is censorship.
No amount of text walls and mental gymnastics can defend it.

they won't listen to you. they are sure of their point and refuse to listen

cause why know the truth when you can use your feelings as your facts?

looks like someone is watching a little to much of the quartering.
Outsider Sep 6, 2019 @ 5:49pm
I do watch quartering from time to time.
But this topic is made long before he put up any videos about ff8

Rinoa's blouse doesn't bother me all that much. If I remember right, I want to say Sony has strict policies on sexualizing underaged characters? Just theory, though. Even if it's just an injection of Dissidia's design choice, I think it's all a bit silly to make these questionable changes. What made me really roll my eyes was seeing Siren's skirt, though. I feel like that is easily the bigger offender of them all. And the weird changes from some blood red to "green something"... in a particular dungeon.

Mind you, I never felt that Rinoa's cleavage or Siren's bush added anything significant to the heart of FFVIII... but these are just really odd changes, in my opinion.

Umm.. a lot of girls wear sports bras and tank tops in that fashion. Most of our tank tops have very tiny straps so it's hard to NOT have our sports bras not showing. Have you guys ever seen women in real life before? Plus the thin tank top over the sports bra is a pretty fashionable look, especially in the late 90s.

As a woman who wears a sports bra, and is roughly the same breast size as Tifa, I can attest that her "sports bra" looks ridiculous. I've never known a sports bra to come down that low.

If we all want to talk about "realistic" characters then Tifa's entire design, down to how skinny she is, is unrealistic and should have been changed. She has no muscle at all, anyone that slim despite being as active as she is would be considered anorexic (those "abs" she has that people are gushing over aren't even abs), and she wouldn't be able to kick or punch anything with those sticks for arms and legs. She has what we would call "pretty girl muscle definition" where she's the perception of what people think of when they think of muscly women. Muscle protrudes so her "abs" wouldn't be so flat and her legs wouldn't be so thin; she would be thick. The best redesign of Tifa I have seen was from Blair Armitage: Tifa had real muscle on her down to thick thighs, calves and arms, and her design stayed true to the original with only a few changes.

The only thing I liked about Tifa's redesign was her skirt, everything else looked stupid, and what's the point of having thigh high socks with nothing to hold them up? That's another thing they skimmed over in the "realism", thigh highs fall down without something to hold them up, like suspenders, so why isn't she wearing suspenders? Because we forgo our disbelief in order to be entertained, and this is why we all assumed Tifa was wearing a bra underneath her shirt because why wouldn't she be? Let's just call a spade a spade, they censored Tifa because people would scream that she's "sexist" or "objectified" or whatever they're shouting about nowadays.

^ Kinda have to agree, here. I mean, they at least had an excuse with the Rinoa situation. Tifa, if I remember right, was about 20 or so. :/

Edit: On a related note, I would have found it funny if they somehow uncensored the Devour ability.

What is interesting to look back on is that this isn't really as 'new' for Square and SquareEnix as people might think. Hmmm.

yeah and if you noticed it's always been at the behest of a console manufacturer that they did it

nintendo used to have some very strict laws in america about what could be shown. such as cross's and stars and such. heck they used to have huge issues with any references to religion in games

now days they are the cool ones. and it's sony that took up the torch of being jerks

Yeah, and I'm not surprised. I mean, I am kind of in the middle about this whole thing. It has potential for some interesting discussion (for the fandom) but the cognitive dissonance and selective memory (regarding the public outcry) of it sometimes seems a bit silly compared to other more outrageous offenses in the industry. I remember the PC version of Final Fantasy VII censoring much of its language, which was a huge letdown to me. Barrett's foul mouth always seemed like an iconic part of his character. Heh. XD.

So, the purist in me sympathizes with people outraged with changes that seem overboard. So, on the other hand, I really do get it in their defense.

That Selphie scan i think may have been just a thing both Japan and everywhere else (as in PS1 original). But i think that just adds to the humour. Its like... "yeah... LIKELY to happen :P" but you can scan everybody else and move the camera up and down etc except Selphie which is pretty hilarious

I read about it recently. But the censorship thing may be due to Japanese censorship laws may be getting stricter. CERO or whatever its called. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Computer_Entertainment_Rating_Organization
