FINAL FANTASY VII

For those who requested it: The PC 2012 music
Although most people agree the new music (actually the old, original music) is much more atmospheric and appropriate than the version that originally came with the PC version, a small minority miss it.

Just to be clear of all the versions:

1. Original PlayStation version (1997)
Considered by some to be the definitive version.

2. Original PC version (1998)
MIDI only version, sounded horrible -- considered by just about everyone to be the worst version.

3. The Original Soundtrack CD Release
A CD release of all the original PSX music remixed with better stereo and higher quality instruments - Fan versions of the music usually use this. Often considered the best version of the music available.

4. Remastered PC Version (2012)
The original PC MIDI files (from #2) with better quality instruments -- still considered inferior to #1 and #3

5. Remastered PC Version (2013) Patched - CURRENT DEFAULT MUSIC
Due to public outcry at #4, SquareEnix patched the game to use the original PSX music (e.g. #1)

Note: The music is all the same in terms of the actual songs, the only differences are in remixing and instruments used.

Here is the promised link to #4: https://docs.google.com/file/d/0BzZG8hMrQocwNmxDU210Snl1R3M/edit?usp=sharing

If you want the CD version (#3), then just install Assimi's Mod:

ThunderPeel, thanks so much for posting the 2012 remastered PC version. On behalf of the small minority who missed it, gracias.

Thank god! I have a reason to install FF7 again to hear the music!

For the record, all the fanmade mods (Assimi's and Anxious Heart's) were taken from the CD release (#3).

Thank you, the music change was really bugging me.

How do I replace the music?

Steam > steamapps > common > FINAL FANTASY VII > data Then you put the music in the music_ogg folder.

If you guys use the PC soundtrack you will be missing out on the choir that's in One-Winged Angel, I suppose that was really the way that it was meant to be heard. I guess this is just the case of that music being heard first instead of the original, although I have listened to the PC version several times it just doesn't stack up to the original.

I just don't really think One-Winged Angel is the same without the choir vocals

Thanks Bonobi.

I probably might not hear one winged angel anytime soon though because i'm stuck on bizzaro sephiroth >_<.

To those using the PC soundtrack. I would recomend to change the boss theme to the orginal PS1 version of it since it sounds way better.

All the music sounds way better, lol.
Wow, thanks a lot. I was already upset i'll be playing with that remastered PS music, but #4 saved my life :3

The current music is not "remastered" -- it is the original PSX music. #4 is the remastered version of the terrible 1998 MIDI music. As long as you got that :)

Just a little bump, as some people are still unaware that the music that comes with the Steam version is the original PSX music.

I was actually looking for the music from before the patch. I liked some of the stuff from that version and I wanted to listen to more of it. I might patch some of it back into the game. Thanks for this!

Also, these files apparently open with Sony Vegas HD Platinum. Thats cool.
