FF7 Shinra building Switching materia Problems

After Tifa get's you to remove the Materia from her and cloud and You fight the boss on the elevator, the game get's you to do a tutorial for switching materia Which states (GO INTO MENU WITH MENU, REMOVE MATERIA WITH SWITH, THEN PRESS END TO CONFIRM).
It is not letting me do this I can however go into the exchange menu and switch it that way but the control's they want me to use in the order they say won't work, and being as a I Cannot get passed the part with doing the tutorial i ask how??? and why is it so confusing, AND WHY CAN'T YOU SKIP IT!

Yeah it was glitched I had to go back to my last save

Wait. You're in a tutorial. You just keep hitting OK to get through it. You don't have to do the actions in a FFVII tutorial.

Thats what I thought to start with, but it doesnt work either. It's reallybugging me now.

In case anyone else gets this, I had this too the Materia from the rest of my party wasn't showing up as Cloud, however I unequped my acesories ( in this case the 4 slot) switched it with the mythril bracelet, then went back to 4 slot and the materia from the rest of my party appeared.

I could not fix it however I just hit B to end and the fight is not too difficult without materia, I only used 1 hi potion.

You go into the menu and then into the materia equipping menu. After this you can go left and next to your armor slots there is selectable text that says "Arrange." Selecting this opens a sub menu at which point you scroll down to "Exchange" and all your materia from your party can be accessed there.

I'm using an XBOX 360 controller and I just hit "Y" when it was saying to do all of this and it worked. Was very frustrating at first.
