Final Fantasy IX is the most overrated game in the series

Not FFVII (anymore).

Every FF community I go on, people always claim that FFIX is the best game in the series while the game is not really that great.

Nobody rates it so low to begin with. How can something getting praised to the moon and being underrated at the same time? Doesn't make any sense. It clearly is more overrated than FFVII. I haven't heard many FFVII fans going around shouting it's the best in the series in a very long time. It used to be like that around 10 years ago but now it's FFIX fans replacing those people.

I'd have a ripped lip if he hadn't been doing this sort of garbage over at the FF IX forum for some time. Dude's got a pretty facile grasp of how subjectivity in preference works, and his absolute commitment to trolling every game apart from X (which appears to be his personal preference) borders on the insane.

Oddly enough from what I know FF9 did worse in sales compared to FF7, FF8, or FF10. FF9 was definitely the least popular from 7-10 (though my personal favorite).

And to answer your question: Those that say it is great are a minority (I agree that it is great). FF9 never got the popularity and notice like the ones before it or after.

It's underrated by people like you who hate it for not folloing the whiny emo J-pop aesthetic that popularised the series from FF7. Before FF7, Final Fantasy games were more like FF9. It's a classic return to the series roots with a simple yet well told story and relatable characters.

It used to be unpopular in the past but in the last 10 years it became the most overrated instead, especially on the internet.

At least for me, it was the only FF that actually got my attention long enough to play it to the end. :p

Either I'm blind or you're lying. The only reason it might have gotten talked about more is because of it being put on the Steam store. Other than that the entry was still a dead drop.

But in all honesty why do you care? If there is a group of people who really love the game and prefer it over the other entries then good for them. You shouldn't feel so obligated to call the game overrated or anything like that.

The real underrated FF is FFV.
