First playthrough. Mods or no mods?
I think I already know the answer to this question, but wanted to gather some opinons anyway.

Im about to turn 29 and have been a gamer all my life. Im ashamed to say I have never played this game and I finally intend to change that lol.

Anyway I appreciate any advice and opinions regarding modding for a first timer.

Update: Couldn't get 7th Heaven to work for life of me so no Reunion. I do however have a graphical mod installed. (Props to Kaldarasha)

I would definitely recommend the graphical mods, as it does make a huge difference. The only gameplay mod I would suggest is the Reunion mod, which is a complete re-localisation of the game. The author (DLPB) has worked to keep the game as true to the original as he could, while also ironing out some of the silly bugs that the vanilla game has. My 17yr old brother experienced his first playthrough with Reunion, and he loved it.

You can find the 7th Heaven Mod manager here:

You'll be able to toggle each mod that you want active. Again, the graphical mods do look awesome (props to Kaldarasha).

Reunion mod is actually what led me to asking to see what you guys think. I've also read good things about New threat. I just don't want a mod thats too crazy and changes the core gameplay or story since its my 1st time.

If you say your brother liked Reunion and it was his 1st time I may just go with that.

In regards to graphics does Reunion have its own or are those seperate?

Reunion comes with a menu overhaul, which looks a lot nicer imo. It also has an option to remove the boxes in-battle, so you can see what is actually going on instead of having a third of the screen eaten up.

For the other graphical mods (field model, field textures, world map textures etc.etc.) you'll have to download them and toggle them separately, but you can do it all pretty easily with the 7th Heaven mod manager.

New Threat is great fun, but it is a huge difference from the original game, and you wouldn't want to play that before having played the original.

Good to know. Thx again.

Have you played any of the FF's before 7? If not I would suggest 6 as it was the first in the series to introduced mixing the advanced tech with the old tomes and swords basic jrpg that the series was known for back then, and 7 adopted that kind of environment but bumped the tech they use in 7 even further.

Aside from Tactics I've only dabbled in FF games. I actually plan on playing 6 on
my snes classic once I finish 7.

The only JRPGs ive played to completion over the years are Chrono Trigger, Tales of Symphonia, and Skies of Arcadia. Loved all 3 of those.

Also, can't get the damn 7th heaven converter to work for the life of me. Im playing the game vanilla for now. Enjoying it thus far.

If you want another great RPG to play try The Legend of Dragoon its a late ps1 jrpg with a pretty interesting story, some of the dialogue's translations are a hilarious at times but I feel like it was pretty good overall, just to warn you the boss fights in that game can be long and some of them are a little puzzle based and the combat can be challenging at times.

Thx ill have to check that out. So far I'm liking this game quite a bit. Just went through Don Corneo's Mansion. Lmao.

Oh, the nostalgia :)
The soundtrack that you hear just after Don's Mansion in the Train Graveyard (Anxious Heart) is the most melancholic track in the game imo

The music is definitely good. I have Kaldarashas player model mod running as well as a graphical update for the battles. Great mods.

Lovin the game. Trying not to look at guides though as ive already read come across a spoiler regarding Aeris..

I guess its to be expected though. The game being as old as it is .

Yeah, Kaldarasha's mods are amazing.

Btw, make sure you have the correct .exe selected within the settings. I believe it's the "ff7_bc.exe" file you want to be selected if playing |Reunion.

If you're looking for a spoiler-free guide btw, then you may wish to check my guide out:
