what's the deal with cait sith

seriously why is this clown even in the ♥♥♥♥ing game?
of all the poorly written characters with vague motives this guy is such a ♥♥♥♥ing mess
all he does is steal something (which we immediately get back)
sacrifice himself ( even tho we know in advance he won't die)
tell a fortune that isn't accurate
and then have a monologue where he talks about being a stuffed animal even tho he's not?

and he's being controlled by the head of security or whatever which also why doesn't that guy have more important things to do than tell fortunes over a robot
surely he has some staff
but then again he seems unhinged based on the ♥♥♥♥ he say under the guise of cait sith so I dunno

like the turks are already dumb enough characters since we're expected to like them around the midway point even tho they kidnap people and commit mass murder but like

how did the writers not see that cait sith had no reason to exist

He tells fortunes because he’s a spy disguising himself as a fortune telling robot in an amusement park.

At least it’s not Derge of Cerberus where Cait Sith is sentient and completely separate from Reeve somehow... and it’s never even addressed why or how this is.

Even the video i posted above has confusion about this too..i have to wonder why this was never addressed. Let's hope in the FFVII remake part 2 or 3 they address this oversight.

He was likely intended to be expanded upon and actually is composed of two identities. Reno who remains in Midgar and genuinely wants to help those in Midgar, not Shinra but is stuck working for Shinra to accomplish his task (a rather interesting concept of its own... doing dirty for good) and his secondary more comedic tale of growth and acceptance within the party of Caith Sith. There was also the fortune telling aspect mentioned before though you seemed to have gotten screwed on that part in the french version you say. Unfortunately, FF7 had major memory limitations and they had no choice to stop and even cut content to make the final game even fit on the three discs otherwise, perhaps, he would have been expanded on further. I expect he will get a significant amount of extra development in the remake compared to the original.

I really hope so. I really want to elaborate on this more in ff 7 remake. We won't really know until part 2 or part 3 comes out.

i agree somewhat cait sith is kind of unnecessary however was it not for cait sith they would not have heard about what the professor was up to and marline would not have been safe so he did have some use it was like they had eyes on the inside.

is this what they call comedic relief?
it can't be to hide his identity because he sheds it while scarlet is conscious and right next to him
