Fix for Rise of the Tomb Raider startup crash
If you're crashing in the main menu (or on startup) try setting steam to "offline mode" If the crashes stop, awesome, but you probably don't want go offline every time you want to play Tomb Raider. What i did to fix this (really fix it) was by disconnecting from the internet. Just going to offline mode won't work. Then i went ingame, loaded up my save and then reconnected to the internet, waited a few seconds for the tomb raider to connect and then exited the game. I'm now able to start tomb raider like normal

Hope this helps. :)

Truly?
This is good news as what you are describing is signs of profile.dat corrpution and there is a walkthrough for that.
Your method sounds much simpler.
Good luck and happy raiding

I don't know how or why, but somehow, this seems to have worked. Thank you!

Thanks Fuhrer, your solution worked but I think I found something better. I was annoyed with having to disconnect from the internet, so I decided to try a beta build of the game. Sure enough, build 811.3 launches with no issues. Here are instructions for those who haven't used a beta build before.

1. Right click on RotTR in Steam.
2. Click Properties.
3. Click the BETAS tab.
4. Click the drop down box and select build811.3
5. Steam will update your game. Launch and enjoy!

Remember this is beta, so although this solution might fix the issue of crashing at the main menu, the game might futz up somewhere else. I'd recommend backing up your game saves if you're worried about them.

Awesome!
Although with my way you don't have to go offline everytime you open the game. You do it once and then you can open it like normal afterwards. :)
