After doing that, go look for ore veins (e.g. in caves) and you'll find some now also contain Chromite Ore.
Note: Even if you have reached the limit for the other type of ore (Magnesite Ore) in your Inventory, if a ore vein also contains Chromite Ore you'll still be able to mine it (you just won't get any more Magnesite Ore). If it doesn't contain any Chromite Ore, you won't be able to - so there's no need to waste Magnesite Ore to check if it does or not.

Actually, if you are carry max capacity of After wasting time searching a dozen or more caves for Chromite for unlocking costumes after finishing the game, I discovered why I wasn't finding any.
It's tied to Magnesite, and I was carrying the maximum amount of that. Since I could not mine Magnesite, I could not mine Chromite either.
It seems to work like this -
When you mine Magnesite, the game flips a coin to decide if you get any chromite along with it.
I don't know if it is 1 to 1 ratio, but definitely of you get 0 magnesite , you get 0 chromite.
That's the Crypt bellow Base Camp Ridgeline in the Geothermal Valley. Got loads from there, need to search quite well, think there are about five deposits.
