Can you change the FOV?
Hello,

Just wondering if there is an option to increase the FOV, as on low FOV settings I get major motion sickness. The last game was good but I could not play it more than 20 minutes at a time.

If not I will have to skip playing it =[

Wider FOV will kill FPS

You must be new here :D

Widen the fov have some impact on performance, but nothing to worry though.

HBAO+, Teselation, Fickitty Fockitty Fuct graphical options and, as always, no FoV selector.

A f*** shame!!!

Config settings are now stored in the registry: hkeycurrent_user/software/crystal dynamics/tombraider/graphics look it up - but I dont reccommend changing them.

I'm one of those that can't play games with a narrow FoVs.
After investigating several days I found a table that allows to modify the FoV of the game. I can now finally play the game for extended periods without going sick.

Edit: The table works with the latest patch as of Feb 22nd.

Of course it is, and it's calculated in real time. It's the same as TR2013 - You can't change the FOV by the traditional way (config file [in this case the registary]/game settibgs), as it calculated in real time.

I think you missed the point he is making which is that when the FOV is calculated ("in real time" as you put it), there are NUMBERS used in that calculation. Those numbers are based on choices made by the developers, e.g. camera location in the 3D scene, camera lens FOV (think wide angle lense vs. regular lens). Sounds like they change from scene to scene for this game, but that doesn't mean the values appear out of thin air; they are always selected by the devs.

It's reasonable to assume those numbers could be modified (incremented/decremented or multiplied) by a value specified as a user preference.

EXACTLY. How naïve are people to think that an option could not be added that gave say, +15 or whatever to the FoV, REGARDLESS of what the current scenes FoV was.

No sale for me.

Hey Guys,
i just want to share with you an alternate way to alter the FoV in this Game (IF anyone still plays it, lol).
No Cheat Table needed, no external program needed.
Here is what you have to do:

Open Registry (to find it, type "regedit" in the windows search bar, click it)

Go to:
Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Crystal Dynamics\Tomb Raider\Graphics

-open "AspectRatio" and change it to your liking.

As soon as you change the Aspect Ratio ingame again, it will reset the custom value and you have to repeat the registry edit.
If you have selected 16:9 Aspect Ratio ingame, youll see a Number like "17777".
Ive changed mine to 23333 and im fine with it.
If you selected "Auto" ingame, you will see a "0" there.
Try out which Fov is most suitable for you but dont overdo it or else ull have a squished superFOV (try out 299999 for the luls) :D

Ps.: I just noticed that i posted this on the wrong Thread, lol.
This is for Tomb Raider from 2013.
But since Rise of the Tomb Raider has the same Engine, it might be worth
a try...

There is also another way to change the FOV.

You create a custom resolution, with fixed aspect ratio or centre, either in nvidia control panel, or AMD settings. A good resolution to use on a 1920x1080 monitor is 1920x900. But if you want a really wide FOV, you could use 1920x720. You maintain your horizontal resolution, but alter your vertical. The more you reduce the vertical, the wider the FOV will be. You don't actually have to reduce it by much to get a far more playable FOV:

The only problem this brings of course, is that you play with black bars on the top and bottom, like watching a super widescreen movie. But, given the cinematic nature of the game, it's actually quite fitting. It also serves to make the game not as demanding, as there aren't as many pixels for the GPU to process, but the resolution is still native. This is one of the reasons this has been implemented by the developers themselves in some games on consoles.

Nvidia control panel > change resolution > customize > don't have nvidia card right now, but it's fairly self explanitory.

AMD settings > display > custom resolution > create > enter resolution with timing as CVT.

Also, make sure your desktop is changed to the custom resolution, before you launch the game, and run the game in borderless in the same res.

sidenote: you will also have to disable automatic scaling or else it will just be stretched to fit rather than getting blackbars

well unless you want a taller but slimmer lara i guess
