do people with 16GB RAM/4GB VRAM get unplayable stuttering on very high textures?
i have been putting off upgrading to 16GB ram but it se ems games are either finally taking advantage of pc ram or completely wasting it, either way i think its now time to upgrade.

before i do though i wanted to know if yo9ure playing this game with 16GB RAM & 4GB vram do you still get stuttering bad enough (once soviet installation, about 10% into game) you have to turn textures down to high? i had bad stuttering during transitions before soviet installation but gameplay was fine. then it became unplayable.

also, anyone with 8GB ram not getting stuttering? VRAM 6GB or more? im upgrading to pascal but that will be awhile and i think ill be able to use the ram anyway...

update: just tried again dont know if they patched it or just my sytem or the area (still soviet insttallation but maybe less view distance?? idk) but now it is running textures = high 60fps fine, very high fps 50s-60 (vsync on) with dips, so that is def vram...not buggy like it was yesterday so far. and i was mistaken very high still looks like crap i guess its the area.

link to nvidia guide talked about in thread (helpful for amd users too) http://www.geforce.com/whats-new/guides/rise-of-the-tomb-raider-graphics-and-performance-guide

GTX 960 with 2GB of ram, playing at 720p and the game is doing this.
https://youtu.be/BWbfVeUb8sg?t=626 - the link is right at the time when the hangs turn the game almost unplayable

Now I am just waiting until a fix or another driver is out.

My 960 Overlocked 2GB model from Gigabyte is having the same issue. I put the settings to Medium, and it still does that. I have 3 hours in the game, but I went ahead and requested a refund in hopes I MIGHT get it. If not, I'm waiting for a performance patch. I can play Dragon Age Inquistion and Battlefield 4 on Ultra settings with 50-60fps. But this game...nope.

The game uses 4gbs+vram at 1080P with textures set to very high, 980 owners report vram related stutters and 970 owners are even worse off because only the first 3.5gb's of vram are actually usable on the 970 as the last 512mb sector is worthless.
Everything maxed out at 1080p, SMAA, the game uses 6gb + of Vram my friend.

16GB RAM but a 980 Ti here and have had no stuttering or performance problems at all. Very High Textures, max everything, 2560x1440, 55-75fps all the time. It seems to be a Vram issue on 970 and non-Ti 980's.

The vram 3.5 isnt the issue..Ive owned a gtx 970 at 1440p and been past the limit no issues...Issue is people trying to max out the game on a lower end card and with the game being fresh and not as optimized as it will get when patches drop with the game getting demanding people seeing stuttering and blaming it on vram...

Just saying with the 3.5GB issue ive been close at 4GB on a 970 no stuttering but then again i know how to turn down settings some people dont then they come on here complaining..

quoting nvidia performance guide:

Those with 4GB GPUs are recommended to use High as VRAM stuttering can be observed on Very High, especially when swapping between gameplay, cutscenes and cinematics, and between gameplay zone transitions.

For a smooth experience with those max-quality, 4K x 4K textures, a 6GB GPU is instead recommended. And to crank things up to 4K (3840x2160), with Very High textures and max settings, we'd recommended GeForce GTX TITAN X GPUs with 12GB of VRAM, as usage can near 10GB over prolonged sessions.

I have a 980TI so im aware of what it uses... though you are looking at memory allocation which is often confused with actual usage. Msiafterburner reports the same vram usage for me in this game at 1080P as it does in 1440P and then finally 4k.

Digitalfoundery claims 4gb for 1080p is what is actually being used.

No, if you were past an actual 3.5gb vram usage you would have known because the card will fall flat on its face. Modern games allocate however much vram your card shows that it has IN case it actually needs to access it. Just because it allocates 4gbs doesnt mean its fully utilizing 4gbs....

"We recommend a GeForce GTX Titan X..."

Holy ****.

For me, the playable part of the game is okay, but all cutscene/cinematic videos are very badly stuttering (3-10fps, sometimes dropping even to 1fps for a second or two!), even in full HD with medium settings... (with a Radeon 280X 3GB VRAM card...)

Im playing in 4K maxed settings smaa on a 6GB 980TI without any memory issues.... Of course nvidia recomments a Titan X.. LOL.

Yeah the cutscene/cinematic stuttering is horrendous. I'm using a GTX 960 OC 2GB VRAM on Medium Settings.

I'm wondering whether it's just a bug that they will fix with a patch... (Similar happened to Just Cause 3 when it came out, it was sooo poor with my Radeon card that I returned the game after an hour for a refund. It seems it's more or less fixed by now.)

I get no cutscene stuttering at all, just a lower fps. The cut scenes are very detailed especially the close ups of the characters.... its likely pushing up vram usage during the scenes which explains why some of you get stutter.

Yes, that can be it... But still, it's weird that it does stutter in 1920x1080... while other people don't have any problem in 4K... Hmmm...
Psychos1s 29 ENE 2016 a las 4:29 p. m.
I thought there may be some sort of memory leak issue. I'm running two GTX 970 FTW+'s and can get a lock 60fps at 2560x1080 (3440x1440 I get 45-55 fluctuations). The game starts at 3300 system ram usage and as you play from the very beginning of the game it just keeps climbing. Once the ram gets to 7.8GB out of my 8GB system ram the problems start.

Everything max but texture quality set to High lowers my system ram usage to 5GB so far. I recommend that for now. The differences between Very High and High are pretty minimal, but the memory usage is crazy between the two.

I see no frame rate stutters, only the 30FPS cut scenes (which is a bit jarring, since they are FMV's). Otherwise, stays at 60FPS. I run 1080p using the Geforce Experience "optimized" settings. Windows 10, 4.5Ghz overclocked CPU, 980ti SC+, and 16GB of memory. The first game that I have played that my GPU, with ACX 2.0, actually hums from the fan noise / heat exhaustion.
