In the more mature and realistic reboot i would certainly prefer the latter.
she's not really plain looking girl. in fact she is quite pretty and slim. if that's their intention, why not go all the way in? she shouldn't be pretty and she shouldn't be slim. why? god forbids heroine should not be pretty and slim. it's the same argument about godly heroine is nothing to do with breast.
i dont think lara is ashamed of her body or sexuality. it's what crystal dynamics and rhianna pratchett think so.
it does matter because that was not who she was. do you change michael jackson to become white if 1% minority of racist hate blacks? because that is not who michael jackson was.
I wish this "games must be mature and gritty" meme would die already. If you personally like it that's good, but not every single game series needs that especially if they were originally meant to be light hearted and kind of out there.
I don't think it has anything to do with "games must be mature and gritty", they certainly don't have to be, but this one kinda is, and so should it's content. We get to play a younger and more fragile version of the heroine.
The old Lara with rather fancy body measurements, running around in siberia in a tanktop and hotpants, just doesn't make a lot of sense in a dark, gritty and very bloody reboot.
People want realism, and immersion, not "random sexy outfit to please rule 34". Personally i couldn't care less what she wears, as long as it makes sense.
this is not the Lara Croft and Tomb Raider it used to be. they simply ruined it to please the feminist.
as a male I find the new lara much more endearing. feminists have nothing to do with this you shill.

You can also find lara in a black bikini :)
