Square Enix servers not available?

Game is taking forever to load on startup (sits at a black screen for around a minute) and when I finally get in it is telling me "Square Enix servers not available, try again later". I've tried everything from restarting to verifying files. I'm at a loss. I've never had this problem.

I swear, games that are primarily single player shouldn't be dependent on Online Servers.

Hi guys, same issue for my friend and I here in Germany. We've had issues connecting to servers, and when in coop endurance mode together, the game routinely quits saying connection is bad to the other player, which never makes any sense as I play other games together with this friend regularly without issues. Very frustrating :(
