my graphics card worked fine for the first 13 months - then one month after warranty, it started overheating. so I have the game set at 60 hz in the options and in the graphics card control panel I also have maximium frame rate set to 60 fps. game does run at 60hz/60fps. "should" work at 100hz/100fps but I cannot test that.

If you're using an Nvidia Geforce GPU, you can use Nvidia control panel to cap your frames to 100 in the program settings on that applet.

(search for Rise of Tomb Raider and add it within the applet's program search bar and then adjust the max frame rate for that game and click apply. You'll only need to do this once and can undo it at any time.).

For a card only 13months old to be overheating points as a fault or cleaning issue. If you smoke and have pets then a mixture of ash and hair can build up on the fan blades and cause the card cooling to reduce by a huge amount. Years back I had games slow down or the system would shut down, I was shocked to see the build up of filth on my GPU flan blades, I had to take it out and clean it with hoover, toothbrush and cotton buds, afterwards it worked like new. CPU fan needed a good clean as well.
You can also use that air in a can stuff, high pressure air that blasts dust and stuff off, but only good for light work.
Also vapes can cause issues as the glycerol that makes the vape clouds can stick to the fan blades increasing dust sticking to it

tks for the tips/suggestions. machine was cleaned when the new cpu water cooler installed. gpu fans are clean and spinning. fans speed up as temp goes up. but playing games over 60 fps then gpu goes into the 90's. some games have to be limited to 30fps. believe cause to be not enough thermal paste or paste has failed on gpu chip but Ive seen videos of gpu's being taken apart and I do not have the tools/expertise for that. besides, card still works at 30/60fps.
