.. not available if you've selected DX12 - it'll be another option after HBAO+ with DX11

didnt see it in dx11 either, do you need the latest patch? as in beta patch
Magneo Mar 15, 2016 @ 3:40pm
weird, I tried DX11 recently & it was there. Let me give it another check.

just tried the beta patch as well still no joy

That's odd. Well, I just gave it a shot and it's available. I'll post a pic in a sec

Ok, Pap, if you check my profile you should see a screen shot showing the vxao. I didn't do anything special - just select DX11 from the options screen before you enter the game

u need to have a Maxwell GPU to enable this option

What graphics card are you running it needs to be a GTX 700 series card and above ie Maxwell anything below that wont get it

.. oops, sorry about that, should work now. But the others have an important point re the card type. Looks like it may be Nvidia / Maxwell only

Have to say though, by far, DX12 with HBAO+ is better looking than DX11 with VXAO, so if you can run with DX12, enjoy. I do have a GTX 970 though. Not sure how this DX12 patch is working with the Red Team.

um DX12 adds no visual difference so there is no way it looks better than DX11 even on the same settings. and VXAO looks a bit better than HBAO+ so really what you are saying is not logical.

trek, on my rig it seems a little sharper with slightly better texture definition. I'll run again on DX11 and see if I'm just imaging it. Haven't actually researched changes DX12 may provide, but others seem to have the same experience with a visual improvement .. ok, let me go fire it up on DX11 again ..

Definite performance improvement over DX11. As much as 10-15+ fps increase outside on the coppermine buildings. Now DX12 does off load some rendering work to the CPU, so I'm not sure if this could improve visuals much, but they do look a bit better along with the added performance boost. DX11 with VXAO looks excellent, but does cause a drop in performance for me, so I'm sticking with 12.

FYI, With this excerpt from a RotTR Implementation article, we do see, besides perfromance, That some visual improvments should be apparent

Fixed some HBAO+ and other Ambient Occlusion issues.
A variety of other smaller optimizations, bug-fixes, and tweaks.

.. I'm sure there's more to come from Nixxes
