Why is VXAO option missing from DirectX 12 and only appears when in DirectX 11???
Why is VXAO not supported by Direct X12? It defeats the whole purpose of the patch to be honest. This patch is supposed to bring 2 new technologies so what is the point then of having them be incompatible with each other?

This now means that if I want the best looking version, I have to stick with Direct X 11 and not get the performance boost that Direct X 12 brings which would help as VXAO costs 5 FPS on average.

I am running at 1080p with all settings maxed, Vignette Blur OFF, Film Grain OFF, SSAAx2 and I average at 42-45 FPS a lot with VXAO. With Direct X 12, I could easily win those frames back.

My specs:
MSI GTX 980 Ti gaming
i7 3770k at 4.5GHZ
16GB RAM
Windows 10 64 Bit

Where do you even select VXAO? I do not see it?

Found it.

Can someone fron Nixxes please explain why VXAO is not supported under Direct X 12? Will this be implemented in a future patch?

VXAO and DX12 are relatively new features. I'm pretty sure they will fix your problem in a future patch. Give to developers some time. It's a hard work...

VXAO just like in other setting does not cost a certain amount of "fps". if you lost 10 fps and were getting 90 fps before its no big deal but if you were getting 30 fps and it took 10 then the hit would be massive. you need too look at it as a percentage.

It's actually 5 FPS, and this is exactly my point. If Direct X 12 gives an FPS boost, I don't see why VXAO is not supported under DX12 where the FPS loss would be mitigated. I am forced to use Direct X 11 in order to get VXAO which is definitely a noticeable upgrade over HBAO+ but in doing so, I lose 5 FPS

sigh, READ my freaking post right in front of yours. VXAO does not cost some exact amount of fps for every person.

1 year later...

DX12 and VXAO still can't be selected at the same time. :steamfacepalm:

That's really annoying because VXAO is more demanding than HBAO+ and the DX12 boost could compensate this framerate loss. :steamsad:

Nvidia only bothered making VXAO DX11 only for Maxwell and up. Devs had nothing to do with it. AFAIK, Rise is the only game that uses VXAO. Nvifia basically switched to improving ambient occlusion with ray tracing at the moment.
