i have done a clean install of all the lastest drivers...honesty DX11 works great...I knew there'd be some kinks with this...I may try again. ROTR has great checkpoints. I never loose much progress.
It's "working" for me now that I changed the AA, turned off the OSD from my watercooler, and also disabled the Steam overlay.

lol the "solutions" some of you have for crashing are bizarre. lower AA level, disable Steam overlay, enable vsync, and now you say reduce shadows.

I have feeling none of those things "fix" crashing and is nothing more than random coincidence. luckily I have had no crashes at all.

I will use DX11 until its patched.

It's not just me trek554, this solution already been suggested by others. Simply saying, there is an issue with DX12 and very high quality of shadows. I'm not surprised as dx12 is kind of new tech.
Still solid fps 70+ , no crashes and that's what matters as game look amazing

and as pointed out there are at least 3 or 4 other things that people blame for the crashing and claim disabling/enabling fixes it.

its a public forum so if people are going to post half a dozen bizarre things they claim will fix the crashing if enabled or disabled then I will comment it on that if I feel like it.

you have to enable vsync if you have crashes in dx12

PS: Nvidia cards are not very good with dx12 anyway you should stick with Dx11

Nvidia Cards are fine with DX 12 unless the game has Async Compute. Tomb raider does not have it, only ashes of singulatry does at this point. Nvidia states that they have not enabled Async Compute in the drivers as yet so we have to wait and see.

Ashes still runs fine on 980ti but i just don't think i would enjoy the game enough to buy it at it's current price. Oddly i thought it was meant to have incredible graphics yet alot are complaining that it's not really that special other than number of units.

Spent too much time trying to get the game to run nice, finished it twice, last time on survivor mode, was too easy. DZ12 might improve it if implemented properly.

lol it is easy nowadays to just keep trying new patches and never actually finish anything :)..
I am really annoyed i lost 40 hrs in Just cause 3 though right when the DLC landed lol.
It seems the game doesn't have cloud saves. i assumed it did so due to a catastrophic failure i had to reinstall windows 10 and lost my game save.
Luckily i didn't lose Tombraider.

How many folks who are experiencing crashes have tried verifying the game cache and reinstalled all of the redistributables? Performing a 'clean' reinstallation of the latest drivers may help as well. Do a 'custom' and 'clean' driver install and only install what you absolutely need.

For nvidia users, don't install GeForce experience, 3D drivers, HDMI drivers or PhysX unless you absolutely have to. Just do a 'clean' install of the display drivers and only update the PhysX drivers if there is a newer version available.
You know you are asking a lot from the "self entitled generation". Trouble shooting is not part of their vocab.........
