Don't get me wrong but...
This game is beautiful with fantastic gameplay but am I the only one that felt this game was a little too identical to Uncharted 2?

Tomb Raider is the better Uncharted to me, especially in terms of gameplay.

-The cover is flat out better, not relying on you pressing a button to stick to cover (which I found pretty buggy in UC3/2), but more fluid in how it contextually reads the objects you're next to for peaking up to fire.

-Platforming isn't linear, where there are always multiple objects in a given level to traverse across, along with other tools like the rope arrow and climbing axe.

-Weapons feel tighter, tools that you progressively make better, with secondary fire modes, and level design that facilitates more creativity with them.

-Puzzles felt more contextual to the world you were in, and were more physics based with some clever setups.

-Also, no lame out of place Uncharted boss fights.

The trouble with both games though, is that even with Lara having more of a character arc in the cutscenes, that really didn't carry through in the gameplay. Lara (2013) cries over her first killed animal and human, but on a dime reverts to the power fantasy of lots of people to kill.

The point was, even if it is like U2, we don't get many games like that on PC, so I gladly take it.

this game has literally nothing in common with uncharted 2: cover system, exploration, controls, puzzles, melee, weapons, modes, character progression, world structure, level design, story, characters... nothing. just the snow.

shooting up old archaeological ruins, battling rival outfits for treasure, and uncovering the mysteries of (Insert Name Here). sounds familiar with either of these titles? i say yes. let's dig in...

It's very clear that Crystal Dynamics took a lot of inspiration from Naughty Dog when designing this new game. And to be fair, the same could be said about Naughty Dog and Eidos back when the first Uncharted was being designed back in 2006. Indeed, when Drake's Fortune was first shown off at that year's E3, many remarked that it was just "Dude Raider." It's was a somewhat valid point, but after a few minutes of playing it was clear Uncharted was more than a copy of Tomb Raider, and the only thing they shared really in the end was a genre. And after all, both Lara and Drake are the just the great-grandchildren of Indiana Jones, who himself is an amalgamation of the adventure characters of the 30's and 40's serials. No one was first to the adventurer game.

Now let me try to point out some specific examples of what I mean when I say the new Tomb Raider is similar. First of all, the overall feel is much more cinematic in presentation, just as the Uncharted games are famous for being. There are huge set pieces everywhere, vehicles blow up left and right, and there's even a burning building that collapses as you try to escape from it. Sound familiar?

In terms of gameplay, the platforming feels nearly identical. The way you control Lara as she scrambles up a cliff is exactly the same way you would Drake. The linear climbing path is even highlighted in a bright color to make it obvious where to grab next, the exact same way it is in Uncharted. The jump arcs feel very similar as well, and the overall way Lara moves just feels very Uncharted like. It's hard to explain if you haven't played it yourself. Also, there are several high action moments where the Lara has to run towards the camera while running away from something, very similar to the sequences in Uncharted where Drake does this (the crumbling ruins of Shambhala and Ubar, running away from the flooding hallway in the cruise ship, the large truck in the steets of Napal, etc etc.)

The setting and some plot points also feel simliar to Uncharted games. [CAUTION: mild spoilers] Lara and her companions (one of which is a older mentor figure and father surrogate, now would you look at that!) find themselves stranded on a remote island which they must explore the ruins of in order to uncover what is really going on there. And of course it turns out to be an ancient supernatural curse. To me, this is similar to Drake's Fortune and how Drake and Elena explore the old ruins of the island and eventually learn about the curse of El Dorado. And like Among Thieves, the supernatural thing in question is guarded by ancient immortal warriors with superhuman strength, just like the guardians of Shambhala.
Again to reiterate, I do not think Tomb Raider is trying to be a blatant rip-off of Uncharted. In fact, there are probably more this dissimilar to it than similar. However it is obvious that the game was influenced in many ways by Naughty Dog's creation, and I think it's important and interesting to note how. The bottom line is if you enjoyed any of the Uncharted games you owe it to yourself to check out Tomb Raider / RoTTR. It is a fantastic game and very solid reboot of the franchise.

Let's call it "The Fountain of Youth"
Protagonist goes on adventure. Protagonist is betrayed by friend. Antagonist chases protagonist with hordes of bad guys, both of whom are in persute of "The Fountain of Youth". Both parties encounter other bad guys. A fight breaks out. Protagonist doesn't let "The Fountain of Youth" free. The End

uhm... compared to uncharted, there's almost no platforming or insane climbing segments in the 2 most recent TR games: most of them are at the very end, and in RotTR some of them are at the beginning, in the tutorial chapter.
in Uncharted, Drake climbs almost all_the_time.

Nice analysis! Although I feel that the boss fight in the end is reminds a lot Uncharted's boss fights!

Yeah indeed! Drake climbs all the time while Lara climbs occasionally!

This is the structure of the story for both games and I think many adventure movies! Yeah it is very similar to Indiana Jones and of course earlier adventure movies!

Well I am a fan of both game series and I really like the fact that Uncharted has influenced the Reboot of Tomb Raider! I mean it is good when a new game copies the good things of another successful game! It benefits us, the players!
I am glad that Crystal didn't copy the shooting mechanism from Uncharted!
I really enjoy that Lara is becoming more like Drake! I hope both studios will continue to learn from each other in order to deliver great games!
So as Mottoman216 stated, if you enjoyed playing Uncharted, you got to check out the new Tomb Raider games as they are not just a copy, but more like two different experiences with a lot of influence from one another!
I also have to state that in my opinion, it was a wrong move from MS to try to make Rise of the Tomb Raider the antagonist of Uncharted 4! They are two games with many commons, but totally different experiences!

Let's see what the future holds for us gamers!:Animal_Instincts:

100% agree with everything you said. I recently started playing Uncharted 2, 3 and 4 and although they are superior in terms of story, characters and writing, in terms of everything gameplay related Tomb Raider 2013 and RotTR are vastly superior in my book. Which makes them more enjoyable as a game and thus have better replay value.
