Windows Store or Steam version
I know it's a little odd asking here but I really dont want to create a Square Enix account just for one thread. Was hoping maybe someone here has had direct experience with the WS version or is very up to date in terms of the builds.

Basically, is the WS as up to date as the Steam version. This link to their official forum https://forums.na.square-enix.com/showthread.php?t=254796 has people complaining/asking for when they will release patch 12 to the WS.

I've read both versions run similarly but that DX12 isn't well optimized. I also heard the WS version has better xbox one controller trigger support or something. Are these true?

The reason for asking is I live in Japan at the moment and because of this, ROTTR 20th anniversary edition/bundle isn't available but the price remains the same as if it was all included but dubbed 'standard edition'...whereas it's cheaper on WS atm.

Thanks.

I would recommend looking into this post listing a user's experiences in both versions https://steamcommunity.com/app/391220/discussions/0/451852225135895461/

I have the Win10 version, it's essentially the Xbox version with a PC upgrade. Meaning you get all the game play features Xbox enjoys like trigger feedback, Xbox achievement pop-ups on screen with SOUND......etc.

I enjoy Xbox/Win10 first and third party versions of games because I like the Xbox eco-system and all that comes with it.

I also like that Win10 games have dynamic resolution scaling. You can ofcourse change this but for casual people with good enough hardware to run the games....it makes for a seamless console-like experience.

I have DX12 enabled on my Win10 version and haven't experienced any problems.

The only thing that beats these Win10 games for me is the Steam community and controller profiles....you don't get that over there.

Thanks for both replies and information! However the key question remains, what current build is the Windows version? is it as up to date as the Steam version. Maybe @twenty1aboutdis could check to see in-game somewhere?

I too like the xbox ecosystem and the achievements. But not if it's performing worse or is behind in terms of updates.

As I type this, again, I feel dumb asking on the Steam forums lol

Hi,

When you ask if it's up to date what specifically are you asking? There are two versions in the Win10 store....the original Rise of the Tomb Raider and the 20 year celebration Rise of the Tomb Raider.

I recently just bought the base Rise of the Tomb Raider.....but I wanted the 20 year.....so with Win10 games they offer in-game upgrades....I found the 20 year update pack within this section of the game's menu. So now....I have the 20 year up-to-date game.....same as Steam.

I feel you for asking on the Steam forums.....but there is an Xbox forum....that handles both Xbox/Win10.

So Square Enix has released a bunch of patches resolving game breaking bugs, fixes for DX12 etc. The Steam version is on Patch 12, but the latest on windows is patch 9 (I think). So I'm asking if there's a way to confirm this - as in, in-game it'll say somewhere,"build 1.0.770.1." (patch 12) at the bottom of the screen or something, but maybe not.

Yeah I check the xbox forums. Last post was from a month ago. trolol.

Anyway thanks for the replies.

You might as well grab the Steam version if you're worried about that stuff. Like I said I have the win10 version and I just booted it up.......did not see a patch number.......I know that Gears 4 gives you a patch number at the menu screen but RoTR does not.

Atleast with Steam you definitely know its the latest DX11 version.

In the meantime I'll enjoy my buttery-smooth win10 version.
