Farming for salvage and technical parts

If you want to upgrade your weapons, you will need a ton of salvage and half as much of technical parts.

Spoiler: in the middle stage of game after you completed all the Gulag in Soviet Installation, there you found 4 dead soldiers that contain loot. Start at the top and work down to bottom of stairwell looting what you find from the 4 dead soldiers, mostly salvage, technical parts, cloth and sometimes ammo. Keep going to the bottom of stairs untill you see TR in bottom right of screen, (it is save for checkpoint) Absolutely make sure you see it, then save your game in a save slot, then reload checkpoint. The 4 dead soldiers will have respawned more loot, so go loot them and after come back to the checkpoint at bottom of stairs, save and reload checkpoint. repeat, etc. Note that sometimes you won't get anything so just reload at the top. But most of time you will get at least 3 salvage and 3 tech parts or even 6 to 8 salvage rarely.

Another farming area is Siberian Wilderness where you can find deer for loot, (deer only spawn once per visit, and the bear only respawns every 2 or 3 visits), but the 3 or 4 Trinity Soldiers that you have to kill for salvage and tech parts will respawn every save and reload checkpoint. I go to the campfire savepoint, good starting place. Early in game you will get some decent XP for killing the soldiers, but at end game you only 1 XP for each.

Just to clarify (and as a reminder for my future self): Fast travel to the Gulag campsite, then head north through the gap in the fence. The building in question is just beyond the red JCB/backhoe/crane.

You don't necessarily need to manually save every time, though I'd recommend doing it before you start a looting session, and again once you're done, just so you don't lose progress if all that reloading makes the game crash.

For runs up and down the stairs, I just use "reload checkpoint" when the TR logo pops.

Aha , didn't know the Greek Fire Depot corpses re-spawned. Thanks, will try it my next play-through !

[One guy had a farming for salvage video, don't recall his name, he was farming The Lost City for salvage, but you had to follow his guide precisely. His way you could access the above cliff start save point camp again after your first salvage run repeatable but if you messed up and went too far you would have to reload previous save and start all over. Also you used up most of your fire arrows because most the salvage crates were in nets that you can't reach and was time consuming, i.e. : more salvage but cost going back to the gas cavern where the fire arrows were to re-supply and took thrice the time for same amount of salvage. (six of one kind or half a dozen of another)]

So, whenever I try this, I get lots of arrows and cloth but very little salvage. Any other ideas?

Edit: Just tested and confirm these are salvage-only crates. Burning the crates is no problem, there's lots of oil and ore for making fire arrows or dragonfire shells. You will use 6 per run.

Of course if you are playing Extreme Survivor mode this doesn't work as well due to the way saves work - you need to end at the Plaza camp and then loop back to Threshold.

Can confirm 13 corpses respawn in Greek Fire Depot. 3X south of campfire, 2x against wood beam north of campfire, 1x in pit near stairs north of campfire, 5x near the pit and stairs, 2x in hallway north of pit that dead ends with bars you can crawl under.

Collect all 13 then return to campfire change gun to save checkpoint and reload / rinse repeat.
