Windows VSYNC, better than in-game VSYNC
I want you guys to try something here.

We normally play using these settings, I assume.

Fullscreen - checked
Exclusive Fullscreen - checked
DirectX11
Vsync - Double or Triple Buffered

Try using these settings instead.

Fullscreen - checked
Exclusive Fullscreen - unchecked (you'll basically be running on BORDERLESS WINDOW)
DirectX11
Vsync - off

No need to turn ON Vsync because Windows applies its own FRAMERATE CAP in the BORDERLESS WINDOW mode. I just don't know which type of VSYNC it actually applies though.

I don't know if this is just PLACEBO effect, but the GAMEPLAY just looks SMOOTHER on this mode. Has anyone observed this?

By the way, you can also try this on Tomb Raider 2013. Same effect.

The game is smoother with ingame vsync off and running in borderless because vsync introduces latency into the game as a bi-product. I always play games borderless because it runs much better in most cases. Its not just the TR games. Its the same for pretty much all games.

When I tried it my FPS went from 60 to 140+..doesn't seem to have a FPS cap at all, and causes the usual tearing, etc.
(Win 8/I5 3.2 ghz/1060 6gig/ 20 gig ram)

Are you using DirectX12?

Anyway, mine has no screen tearing. Windows seems to be putting its own Vsync

You probably have V-Sync enabled in your control panel. Either Nvidia or AMD, depending on your manufacturer.

Yes, when playing in borderless the vsync used by windows on your desktop should also work for the game. Its not as good as in game vsync but its still pretty good at removing most tearing and it doesn't incrase latency.

Actually my Nvidia Control Panel has 'use application settings' enabled(default)
so if I have it 'off' in ROTTR settings...it means that there is no FPS cap....explains why I get over 140+ FPS...double buffering caps it at 60FPS(so does triple buffering)
only way I can cap the FPS in thru MSI Afterburner....
but then wouldn't that defeat the purpose of trying to use the Win v-synch?

Yeah it would. Using the win vsync allows you to have uncapped framerate with tripple buffering still being used by windows to iron out the frame tears. Just leave your framerate uncapped, there is no reason to cap it really.

Yeah...I understand you but I tried that in the first place...and I get 'tearing'(probably my hardware then)...anyway I also noticed that turning off 'exclusive' full screen disables DSR which I like using a bit higher when playing ROTTR.

side note:I messed with the Arkham Knight game also....the DSR remains enabled in
borderless window'

I'll figure it out
thank you for your help :)
