Difference between this and Regular Tomb Raider?
Are they different games? I feel like it's just a remastered edition or am I wrong here? Also if it's a remastered edition, how come we didn't get it for free or at a reduced cost for original game holders?

What do you mean regular tomb raider? If you are refering to the 2013 one, this is its sequel.

Direct sequel by chance?

They follow each other in the continuity, but you can follow the story in Rise without playing 2013 first.

2013 tells the story of how Lara becomes a hardened explorer, while Rise is her first adventure after those events. There are a few references but nothing all that important to the plot.

I'd still recommend playing 2013 as well. It's a good game and still holds up today.

It isn't a remastered game, Rise of the Tomb Raider is a direct sequel to Tomb Raider 2013 with similar gameplay but many improvements. I would recomment playing Tomb Raider 2013 before picking up Rise of the Tomb Raider they are both great games and you can get the first game for really cheap

Since RoTR hasn't been out for 20 years, I can't understand them naming it that, unless it includes the past 20 years' worth of Tomb Raider games, and then it'd be the 20-year Collection.

Maybe OP rather thought of the "20 year celebration edition" of ROTR versus the vanilla edition of ROTTR. The question whether the 20th aniversary edition is a "remaster" of the "regular" one would make much more sense in that context at least.

You are correct good sir. I was not exactly concise but that was more or less what I was going for.
