Graphics - Rise of Tomb Raider vs Uncharted 4
Not being a troll. But I was honestly blown away by the graphical fidelity of Uncharted 4 when i visited the family for christmas.
I don't have a ps4 at my place.

I was honestly surprised by that fact that I found the 30 fps Uncharted 4 gameplay and visuals very very enjoyable.

I bough Rise of Tomb Raider thinking that it will be like Uncharted 4 + High Framerate! Yay!

Nope. Rise of Tomb Raider graphics are somehow not of the same quality.

May be it is attention to detail? I don't know.. somehow Uncharted 4's visuals look wayy more "solid/robust" if that makes any sense. In fact I've never seen any game that looked as good.

Or was it just that I played on an IPS monitor at home?

Anyone else feel the same?
If console "peasant" games can do such amazing visuals, then I'd love for PC games to do adopt those ideas.

Rise looks better mate. Full 4k, higher res textures (requieres 6gb vram), better res shadows, better lighting, better AO (VXAO), better hair effects, better reflections etc. I think the snowy areas of Rise maybe don't look as good as i personally don't really like the snow, but in syria and geothermal valley rise definatly looks better, especially at 4k ultra. Also uncharted is much more linear than TR so the console can manage to put out such good visuals and the fact that its an exclusive means the devs only have to optimise it for 1 platform. Also the textures in TR are more consistant IMO as U4 has nice textures but the anisotropic filtering is awful. If you look at these two screenshots, U4 clearly has some issues with low res textures around the edge of the screen in the distance which TR (when on AFx16) never seems to have.

Maybe im just being a PC elitist, but after playing alot of games on PC and console you start to realise that consoles cut alot of corners to look as good as they do which the PC dosn't have to do and as a result you end up with problems like blury textures and shadows in the background. But either way both games look good, I just get the feeling that U4 isn't as good looking as people seem to think it is and that overall Rise has a more consistant look with very few compromises (not to say that there are non) and the overall look is better than U4 IMO. Plus Lara >>>>>>>>>>>>> Nathen Drake, just saying :P

all untouched

I have a GTX 1070 and an i7. It's not my "RIG".

If you never played uncharted 4.

You can say so.

Never played it.
However, you're comparing "apples to oranges" when mentioning any other game & Rise.
Not the same developer, not the same publisher.

Firstly, just like to say that I appreciate a comment from someone who knows what he's talking about!

It looks like you have played both U4 and Rise or atleast acknowledge the existence of U4.

I'm gonna only compare 1080p to 1080p. Coz that's reality.

You could get a Titan XP and a 4K IPS 144hz monitor and say it looks better than U4... but obviously that doesn't count.

I love pc gaming high frame rates and great visuals and all,,
But i've never really noticed Low res textures at the corner of the screen in U4.
As a whole package U4 visuals looked amazing.

And yes.. the Snow section of Tomb Raider looks pretty bad in comparison.

I spent 30$ on Rise expecting that my GTX 1070 will blow U4 visuals out of the water...
then I was pretty surprised that didn't happen.

Also, U4 and Rise are pretty linear games so can't agree that makes a difference.

We're only allowed to compare Visuals of games that have the same developer and publisher?

Also, I'd like to make an analogy.

Yngwie Malmsteen is to David Gilmour
WHAT Rise of Tomb Raider is to Uncharted 4

After playing both games this is what I feel :Geralt:

I honestly think that both did an excellent job pushing hardware to limit.

I've played Uncharted 4, and, in my opinion, it's the best looking game on consoles.
Naughty Dog did a really great job with that game and you can tell they did put a lot of (long) work on it.

But I have to say that on pc, if you can't push RotTR to its max settings, you won't be able to tell how good this game looks.
Prophet's tomb/Siberian wilderness/Acropolis are beyond stunning.
Overall, shadow and texture quality is better in Rise (well, at least it looks more realistic to me) so I would say that RotTR, in my opinion, has the upper hand.

I don't doubt that Rise uses much better technology for its graphics - Better Anti-Aliasing, Shadows, Texture filtering and what not... the same way Yngwei can play the fastest guitar solo ever with amazing riffs, arpeggies and all kinds of advanced techniques

But... Uncharted 4's choice of locations and set them up is something that can't be measured with metrics the same way... you can't David Gilmour songs don't measure up technically as the fastest guitar solos ever...

But it doesn't matter.... Great Art is more than the sum of its parts.

U4 is way more than the sum of its parts.

Rise is the sum of technically superior parts.

I can't explain why U4 is better in terms of Framerate, Resolution or Graphic Technology,
but just that it's more compelling to me than Rise.

I bought U4 for 30$ and Rise also for 30$.

I think its a bit unfair to say you can't compair Rise at 4k to U4 at 1080p but what ever. I think it really comes down to the games locations as like i said earlier, the snowy sections don't look that good but other areas of Rise look way better than U4 IMO. I also have to say that although both games are linear, Rise has much larger areas and maps to explore and more side content (collectables, tombs, caves, crypts, side missions etc) which means it will take more time to polish it to the same level and harder for hardware (especially consoles) to run. And although graphics are important, gameplay, story, fun factor and a million other things are just as or even more important to a game than the graphics which is where Rise really starts to shine. Rise just has alot more content, not just in the main game but also in the Expedition modes like endurance coop, multiple replay modes, two zombie modes, 2 additional storys (blood ties and baba yaga) etc when compaired to U4 which as far as im aware only has a multiplayer mode outside of the main game (i only played it round my friends house so correct me if im wrong). Overall, from the small amount of U4 ive played and my time in Rise, i just have the feeling that U4 is more of an interactive movie than a fully fledged AAA title, mainly created to sell more units of a console. Rise on the other hand has alot more "bang for the buck" and is much more inline with the amount of content you would expect from a modern AAA game. As i said though i have not played U4 any where near as much as i have played Rise so i might be wrong about a few things and its only my opinion. Either way both are good games (or at least U4 would be if it was on PC) and its really up to the gamer if they prefer story or content as to which one they will prefer.

Yep, I was just making a comparison between the purely "tech" sides of both games, because after reading the first post I thought it was that kind of comparison.
And in this context I think RotTR is better, but it's just an opinion like any other.
Sorry for the miscomprehension.

But yeah, I understand your point of view, even if locations, graphics coherence, overall feelings when looking at the game, surrounding atmosphere, and stuff like that, in my opinion, are more subjective thus harder to compare!

Some will probably like RotTR's Kitež more, others will prefer UC4's Madagascar representation.
It just comes down to everyone's preferences I would say ^^

Exactly, my opinion is that PC gamers will be surprised when they play UC4 on ps4 coz it's comparable to some of the best games on PC even if we consider ps4 to be kind of a potato compared ot High End PC's.

Compare 2 difference game on 2 difference platform, huh. It's doesn't make any sense. If you think Uncharted 4 have better graphics quality, fine. You should wonder how it can be if it landing to PC platform. If you have free time, find something useful to do.

I meant acknowledge that games on consoles don't all look like ♥♥♥♥ and console is not a potato.
I live in NY, NY. I'm sure you've heard of it.
