In need of advice for a blind let's play of Oxenfree
Greetings ladies and gents,

my name is Kammellion and I am planning on a let's play of Oxenfree. One of the dear viewers on the YouTube channel has given this game to me as a gift to play right after my let's play of Life is Strange. I'm really looking forward to it but I'm also very thankfull!

All I know about the game is that it is story driven and has multiple endings. But is there any more advice you can give me on the game, without spoilers? How does the saving system work? Are there things I need to look out for?

Also, does anyone know if I can do a monetized let's play of this video game? I do not want to get the channel in trouble or go past the developers and monetize the video without permission.

If you are interested in the channel, here's the link:

Thank you so much for your help,
Kammellion

i don't have any useful non-spoiler advice. however, i can tell you that the game autosaves during every loading screen, and loading screens appear when you enter different areas (you'll be prompted when you approach an entrance to another area).

as for things you should look out for... well, there are plenty of neat secrets hidden under the surface. i'm not exactly sure what you do or don't consider spoiler-y so i won't say anything past that just yet.

Thank you chatruelle! That really helps, I can be more aware in this way of episode lenghts now that I know the games moment of saving :-) .

I appreciate that, thank you. Just as with Life is Strange I will check every nook and crack in that case :D !

Just make decisions as you would in real life. The game is very cryptic with it secrets and one playthrough is not even close enough to figure out the meaning behind some of the more out of the way secrets. But the core experience is still top notch, you will be left a lot of time to speculate during your playthrough if thats how you operate. I suggest you, as well as your fans, look into the ARG or Augmented Reality Game. Theres some phone numbers and radio signals its pretty damn cool. Most of thats concentrated on the reddit.

I dont know your audience but there is definate merit with taking your time. The game does branch off but it isn't made obvious. Hell every conversation choice can potentially spin off and have consequences down the road. I know games say that a ot but literally everything you say can matter somewhere else down the road. Hell 5 minute into the game there is scene on the beach that changes depending on the very short conversations you had up til then... I think that scene has 5 variations... Thats the first one... in a 3-6 hour game. So try not to get bogged down by the idea of a "right" or "wrong" way to play.

Without spoilers there are better paths than others but like I said its very obscure. Its there and a even amateur sleuths can find it but LPs have a habit of being timed so lots of LPers dont take the time to properly have a good time with the game.

Its has a few parallels to LIS but that game has a clear path thats considered "best" this does not... yet anyway. I think your longer form episodes will fit this just fine.

LPs can be monetized.

Thank you for your advice and your subscription Metatron!

I will certainly do my best to make the descicions that feel right to me, as I always do with many choice based games. This is going to be great! I am also very much looking forward to discussing the game on the channel with you guys during the episodes. Discussing things that I missed or what would have gone differently if I picked an other choice.

I am at a loss, what does ARG have to do with Oxenfree (no spoilers!). I never got the hang of reddit though. The site is very confusing to me haha! I need to find a good tutorial to know how to use that platform first hahahaha XD !

Oh that is awesome that there is so much depth choice put into this game! I knew a bit about it from the trailer and from those that adviced the game to me. But this sounds great! Going to be awesome.

Oh do not worry. To take LiS again as an example, the game has 5 episodes. I cut them up in let's play episodes and to work through a whole episode I search around for every clue I can find, which conjures up to playing one episode in 3-3.5 hours. I want to do games justice, there is no point in not enjoying it and finding everything. Afterall, what fun is there for the viewer if the video's are not coming from someone who enjoys the game and engages with the viewer? Those things are very important to me.

No best or worst path, that sounds like crystal bells ringing in my ears haha! (in a good way :O !)

Do you have a reference where I have a developers permission that I can monetize the let's plays? Again, I do not want to go behind the back of the developers.

Your welcome. I always enjoy watching toher people play games, especially mystery games.

Without spoiling?

Um... ? the best way I can describe it without spoilers in the island has some pretty wonky temporal (time) properties. And that plays signifcantly into the ending. The ARG is currently seen as a way to... get the best ending. You will see.

Yeah I'm watching your LP now. You dont skip much at all. Its good. If you see playthroughs like Markiplier he is obviously time constrained and so he likes to glaze over stuff. You come to his video more for his personality than the actual game and thats no good. Its should be the game and the personality working in tandem. Still fun to watch though.

Yeah there isnt a wrong way per se. The ending makes that clear and you will see why.

I have seen monetized LPs already. I dont have a page though. You can ask them here: oxenfree@nightschoolstudio.com

I myself am a fan of many forms of gaming. Especially indie games always peak my interests.

Well, I'll figure it out along the way I guess haha :D !

Oh really? Thank you and I hope you will enjoy LiS :D !
Indeed, I have not watched either Markiplier or Jacksepticeye (my favourite YouTubers) play LiS but I already had a feeling that would be how they played the game. Thing is, monetization of LiS is prohibited so they wouldn't make any money from these videos either. Since they do this for a living, I can understand. Both of these biggies have inspired me to give a crack at YouTube. I'm working really hard for the content I bring out and every video has been created with passion. I'm just not as funny as Mark or Jack are haha! They are naturels. Still, some games do not bring out the funny side anyway. LiS is quite the serieus game, so I'm serious. Playing To the Moon or Undertale, brings out a complete different side haha XD !

To the Moon had me bawling like a baby. Iwent in blind and marathoned it in one sitting.

go spoiler free

I understand the game is quite informatic with a lot of speech story going on, but no actual cutscenes. Thus I can just pause the game whenever needed to speak my mind and probably do that, wouldn't want to miss anything story wise :3 !

@Blue I certainly will :-) . Acctually, most games played on the channel are 'blind', meaning I play them without much prior knowledge. Oxenfree I only know the trailer and what has been said here, nothing else. Can't wait to find out what this game can throw at me :D !

Well, I just played the first two episodes of this game and by the end of episode 2 (an hour into the game) I was blown away! This game seems very intrigately interesting :O ! There is a lot of talking going on so sometimes it's a bit hard, but overall, I love it so far :D !
