Required to interrupt characters speaking?
It seems like you're required to interrupt other characters talking when selecting if/what you will respond with. That seems strange to me. You had a voice actor record all these lines, and the player needs to interrupt hearing/reading them to have your character interact.

That's a strange design choice.

I can't imagine playing the game without subtitles on. I'd miss half of what the characters are saying by interrupting them all the time.

Sometimes you don't need to interrupt them, or Alex waits until they finish even if you pick something halfway through a sentence. You can wait until the dialogue bubles start to fade before actually picking an option so I often decide but wait until the last moment before pressing the button.

then just dont. Silence is a valid option. Thats a nice life lesson. If you looked closer at your own life you would see how often you interrupt people while trying to push your own ideas.

It's incredibly annoying however. It's entirely possible to have something valid to add to a conversation and do it without rudely interrupting the people you're talking to. Overall the dialogue felt forced and unrealistic, marring a really good story.

You think you add something valid without interrupting someone. Try to look at yourself next time you are in group of 3 and more. You are not so perfect as you think.

Lol what the hell are you even talking about? It doesn't seem like you're very familiar with group discussions in social environments.
Not surprising.

...anyway, special snowflakes notwithstanding, a fun game despite some annoyances I found with the dialogue.

Funny I thought it was some of the most naturalistic dialogue I've seen in a computer game, I didn't find myself interrupting the others all that often or in most cases it was rude. Probably depends on if you go for the options the moment they appear, and how you talk with your friends.

I found it frustrating, trying to guess when I had to interrupt or lose the chance, and when I could wait till the end of what they were saying.

It's not just about manners, it's about game mechanics.
I have to agree - I can see what they were trying to do but the implementation just feels incredibly awkward. It's a shame because apart from that misstep (lack of polish?) this is a very well written game indeed.

I think Tales from the borderlands did it really well, although they had problems with interrupting dialogue as well

While I get why they that, to give a more natural vibe, I do also think that it ends up frustrating the player as there's often the feeling that you're missing out on some pretty well written dialogues. Still a damn good game though.

I think the easiest thing to do to help out those who struggle is to put customisable shortcuts on the speach bubbles that way if anyone has trouble reaching it with the mouse they can assign keys to each response (3 is all that is required) and pick the option easily. As its customiseable they can set it to the easiest one for them.

At least give an option to let us choose not to interrupt. I don't think the devs pay enough attention to this issue.

there is such option. Just do not interrupt characters and listen to them.

I just started playing, but I just interrupt everything the moment it gives me an oppurtunity to respond or even when it comes to interacting with the environment lol. It does feel weird though.

Are you honestly missing the entire point of what's being discussed in the thread, or just trying to antagonize?

When selecting a response for Alex, the game gives you no indication whether she will wait for an appropriate pause in the conversation, or if she will instead just immediately blurt out what you chose and interrupt things. I liked when the game did the former. Not so much the latter, and that's what it usually did. I recognize that it's difficult to handle conversation like this in a computer game as well as they did though. If the aim was for a more "real" group conversation flow, they did a better job than any other game I've played that I can recall. But not knowing when Alex was going to speak up tripped me up and caused me to miss out on dialog in several places.
