Anyone found a way to make it stahp?
I did alt-tab a lot to try to google the problem and re-connected the pad 100 times.
Eventually it stopped.
Obviously it's not supposed to. It's one of those embarrasing bugs that apparently developers never bothered to fix.
I couldn't find any good solutions online, but I explored a bit and figured out these easy steps to fix the problem if you are using steam, which if you are reading this, then I am assuming you are. I am also using Windows 10, but I am not sure if it matters. Note this will completely disable vibration on your controller for Steam games. It will not work at all (I hate vibration anyway), but you should be able to change it back at any time.
With your xbox controller plugged in, open up Big Picture mode (don't worry.. we just need to use it to change the settings). You can do this by going to View -> Big Picture Mode.
Once it opens up, click on the Settings icon, which is next to the power icon. Once in settings, go to Controller Settings. I turned off "Guide Button Focuses Steam" and selected "Xbox Configuration Support". At the bottom, under Detected Controllers, click your Xbox One Controller which should be detected if it is plugged in. When the new menu opens up, you mnay have to click Identify. Once that is done, select Preferences.
In here you have your Controller Name and Rumble Preference. Change Rumble Preference to OFF. Select Submit. A message should show up saying something like "Xbox One Controller. Using settings from "your steam name here"". Once that is saved, select Back, select Back again, then sleect the Power icon in the upper right corner. Then select, Exit Big Picture.
Now you are back in the regular looking steam. I chose to restart Steam, so I didn't test if it works without restarting the service. Once this was done, Oxenfree worked for me without any controller vibration at all. It applied to all other games in my Steam library as well.
- Select the game in your library (Big Picture)
- Click on "Manage Game" right below the Play button
- Select "Controller Options"
- Rumble Emulation: Set it to Off to disable Rumble/Virbrate for that game only.
Simply make the game windowed (press Alt+Enter or set it in options) then click outside the game window (so that it loses the focus). This stops the constant vibration for me and then I can go back to fullscreen and continue using the controller.
Edit: The vibrating doesn't stop sometimes, so then you've just got to Alt+Enter, click outside (vibrating stops), click back inside, Alt-Enter again, and then resume playing. Might be a bit frustrating having to do this multiple times, but it's not game-breaking if you really want to stick with the controller.
