My gosh you really know nothing about the problem.
In MegaMan, the NES games, the animation of the characters were like... 3 frames per second or something? No one complains.
Gunvolt has a fluid enough animation.
The problem is the screen scrolling. 60 fps has been the very basic on sidescrolling platforming games since the NES.
Even the MSX which is older and couldnt handle scrolling that well, when screen was static, at least the sprites would move at 60 fps.
The developer CHOSE to cap gunvolt at 30 (or less) for NO reason. At all. I think it's just an artistic choice. A bad one. The game is designed to be just one of the other 60 fps games. There's nothing in it preventing that. All we want is a smooth scrolling screen, not a choppy one.
Everything else in the game can stay the same. I think even a simple hack could fix this. (like those games that you just edit the .INI file and change 30 to 60., but maybe for Gunvolt it will require an actual hack.)
In Shadow of the Collosus for PS2 and Zelda on N64, no one will complain. Do you know why?
Because the system they're running on is REALLY being pushed with complex graphics for what they could handle. We are ok with that and understand the problem.
Gunvolt is not at all pushing the system. AT ALL.
The key word was MIGHT. And also, I'm not a 60fps-or-bust person. If a 3D game can run at 60fps on my machine (which it never does), great. If not, and it still is around 30 or higher, that's fine with me too
But a 2D game running at not-60fps? It's blasphemy, but at the same time it doesn't ruin my experience with the game. The loading times, however, do.
You should also understand that most Japanese publishers, like Tecmo Koei or 5pb Games, don't seem to know how to properly port their games to PC. Am I saying "shut up and deal with it?" ♥♥♥♥ no.
You stopped playing a great 3DS game on the 3DS just because "it's not 60fps"? Really?
But whatever, it affects different people differently. 30fps almost gives me motion sickness in games with a lot of scrolling. For other people it's fine. 60fps is ideal since it makes the game enjoyable for everyone.
In any case, no need for people to be jerks to each. Here's the thing:
a) If you prefer 60fps, no need to be a condescending elitist to those happy with 30.
b) If you are fine with 30fps, no need to act like people who prefer 60 are just being picky.
I had a DS and a 3DS.
MegaMan Zero on the DS, Azure Striker on the 3DS.
Showed my bro, asked which one he preferred, he said Azure Striker cause it looked more smooth. He wasn't trolling or anything, he doesn't play many games and can't tell the difference between 30 and 60 fps.
This is the kind of people why developers don't care as much about 60 fps :(
Because there's a big audience out there full of ignorant ♥♥♥♥♥.
Well to be fair while zero runs at 60 it has less animation movement and the ds had way less processing power, even the dsi runs circles around the ds in the regard, which can give the illusion that gunvolt runs smoother. Especially if you are using an emulated version on a hacked chip as I am assuming otherwise I don't know why you wouldn't have shown him the game on the 3ds where it might have run a bit smoother and had a better refresh screen rate.
