I have had it happen all over the place in the land of the dead, at the end of the boss of lostlight, in tri-stone, basically everywhere in the game. Either it's a sound card problem or a problem all through the game. I am not using the beta patch though just the vanilla deathinative version downloaded from steam maybe that's why i'm having more problems then you?
If you want to check your settings go to Contol Panel >Hardware and Sound >Sound.
Go to the device (headset/speaker) that you'll be using for the game and select it.
Once it's selected right click and select Configure Speakers.
Now select the type of audio you want for your device (Stereo for me) and test it.
Once you find the right setting for you your problem should be fixed.
Hope this helps.
So you had no sound the whole time or it was cutting out while playing? I could understand no sound because it was trying to play on channels you didn't have but I'm not sure why the game would switch channels mid-game
In my case the Idiom was Spanish, so I changed the game language to English from Steam options, then I tried the game and it worked correctly.
I closed the game and changed the language back to Spanish and then an update started to be downloaded (I guess it was the missing audios).
Then I tried the game again and the problem was solved
