When are life/wrath leeching weapons supposed to drop?
I know I'm probably not that far yet into the game (only just finished the first part of the Gilded Arena) but I have yet to see one, either as a drop or at merchants. I assume it has a minimum (weapon) level requirement? Currently I am level 15, highest enemies I've seen were 16 I think in the Scar and Deposed King Tomb (still didn't kill the boss itself; his attacks seem easy enough to avoid, but I deal so little damage to him it's not even funny, and I don't want to spend one hour in a dance-off against him atm).
In the mean time I guess I'll just keep using that unique axe that I got what feels like a gazillion levels ago...

Life steal and wrath steal weapons drop or are available in stores in NG+ according to my plays but you can make possessed weapons with life steal, wrath steal and other stats even in the early game. The trick is simple.
1.Get a possessed scythe or secondary weapon.(They are random drops or you can buy them from Vulgrim with enough boatman coins. But in my opinion Possessed weapons from Vulgrim sucks since it can sometimes give you the weapons with the stats you don't like)
2.Buy 2 Legacy Artifacts from Vulgrim which cost 50000 coins(25000x2).
3.Save the game.
4.Start feeding your weapon with those 2 artifacts and you will get random boosts to your weapon like lifesteal, wrathsteal, health, wrath, strength and so on.Even the reaper enegery regen.(Sorry I forgot to mention that you will only get one stat from this so if you want both life and wrath steal you need 4 artifacts which is 100000 coins)
5.If you don't satisifed with the stats you get, simply quit the game.(not to desktop)
6.Load the save, continue and keep feeding the weapon untill you get what you want.
Note : The life steal and wrath steal percentages are pretty low at the early game that you will get around 7-12%.Now you are level 16 so I think it will be around 17%.Hope my trick helps you.
And I think you can do the same save and quit method with Vulgrim.I mean when you get enough boatman coin and coins to buy possessed weapon from him save the game, buy the weapon and if you don't like the weapon you get, quit the game.Load the save and buy again.I haven't tried this yet.

Seems... interesting. Are the weapons you get from Vulgrim's crates always at your level? This is worth a try at the very least.

The weapons you get are the same as your level so basically the weapons you get from late game are more powerful than the early ones. That's why you get low stats in early game. But early game with life and wrath steal is pretty good choice for deathinitive difficulty.

It's either L18 or L20 (I believe the former, but I can't remember for sure).

The level cap for the first playthrough is 22, so if you're doing everything, you should start seeing them toward the end.

Item drops from enemies are set to the enemies' level; drops from chests are at Death's level.

Can confirm, that's how I got mine. I have a Possessed Scythe set with both a Health bonus and Health Steal that, using the 'drop' method, have maxed out.

Just FYI, the game doesnt auto save when you lvl up a possessed weapon so if you get bad rolls, you can just quit and load the game again

There's also this neat little trick to get maxed stats for your possessed weapon. You won't get 100% on these, as different stats 'max out' at different percentages (for example, Health Steal maxes out at 43%), but you can still max them out using this trick. Just upgrade them as normal. Then, when they've reached the upgrade limit (the 'Upgrade' option will be in red), just drop the possessed weapon then pick it up again. Viola, you can now start the upgrade process all over again.

You'll know when you've reached the limit, though, because you'll start getting 'Invalid ID' popping up.
