The CD version never had copy protection because DotT came out before CD burners were a thing and this is based on the CD version.

I'm glad they removed the copy protection for Maniac Mansion, though.

I think the OP must be a little confused. In the original floppy disk version of DotT there was a copy protection bit that happened after you found the super battery plans. Bernard gives the plans to Dr Fred (as usual) but he looks at the plans and tells you bits are missing. In order to fill in the missing bits of the Super Battery plans you had to refer to the game manual. You had to position the Croutons and adjust the levels of oil and vinigar depending on the patent number given to you by Dr Fred.

And the original Maniac Mansion copy protection was a code on a door that split the mansion in half. It was 7 pages long, filled with symbols on a matrix that you'd have to find. And if entered the wrong code enough times, the mansion would explode.

:D Yeah I remember that. LucasArts always had the most interesting copy protection schemes back in the day. Like the Dial-a-Pirate with The Secret of Monkey Island, or the Mix 'n' Mojo wheel with LeChuck's Revenge. Or the Visa codes (and subesquent jailing if you failed) for Zak McKracken.
