however... i dont know for sure.... but... i do recall this:
the first old classic maniac mansion did require a code for a safe , that could be found by adding radioactive water (i think it was radioactive water) to a certain plant in some corner, climbing in the grown tree would allow to see a certain code or so...
havent tested it yet, but i heard about that long time ago.
I dont know if any real code (ingame or given by the developers is needed)
but the classic game did require some code . for a safe of dr ed or something like that, its 25 years ago, so i dont know for sure...
btw, have any of you guys/girls ever played c64/vic 20? atari 2600 ?
i assume no, well i have been gaming for over 45 years so thats a long time of gaming experience ....
i hope not, cause bugs tend to ruin your gameplay ... makes it quite difficult to progress in the game or even finish it.
I'll chime in on the Maniac Mansion issue that you are encountering. The steel security door at the top of the stairs on the second floor of the mansion is open by default. Therefore, you can simply walk through it and it will not prevent you from progressing further into the game. That's it! You don't have to use any verbs on it or anything, just move the cross-hair cursor onto the open door and click.
But if you're feeling adventurous.....
This was a copy-protection feature that has since been disabled, but it's certainly not stopping you from reaching one of the many Maniac Mansion failure states.
That door is still very much hooked up to the security electronics grid that Dr. Fred had installed sometime back (you can tell because of the pink and red wires coming out of the door). More specifically, it's a NUKE'M ALARMS Model 21-6 Diablo Series II (Nuclear Reactor not included). Even though the door is open, you can still use the [Open] verb on the door to engage the security measures.
When the keypad pops up, it'll give you a SECTION number along with a numeric row and alphabetic column (i.e. SECTION 3 [H 34] ). At this point you can just lookup the keypad combination in your very own NUKE'M ALARMS Owner's Disarmament Quick Reference Guide[harang.fortunecity.ws] and if you did it right, the security system will remain dormant.
