If you’re looking for a challenging platform race with no-return, then this is the game for you. Alpha runner forces players to constantly collect a cube in order to progress to the next … before the current floor they are on disappears [Hence, the no-return system]. Later in game, there will be more obstacles on the platforms, such as rolling spikes and hammers. There are also mini-games that you partake in, before resuming to the original run. My best advice is to wait a second or two, before moving on to the next platform. That way you can see what obstacles could be waiting, before jumping. Wait for the first Hammer-down before proceeding to pass through it, too if you encounter this obstacle. The Steam Leaderboard is a plus for those who want to play competitively in this game.

I’m not a big fan of Platform games that involve racing, but I thank the developers for creating such a challenging game, yet with such simple mechanics and controls. The constant change of characters each time you start a new round also, in a way, presents a new experience each time. It certainly motivated me to try again, specifically for They call me Box, Boxguy achievement.

The BG has an interesting twist of changing into different gradients, with various shapes and effects like rain in the mini-game. It’s nothing too flashy, but does bring about a lively atmosphere to the game. I also found the music suiting and quite catchy, despite it being an infinite loop. It starts with a bass sequence, followed by clapping, and finally techno beats. This was a nice build-up, both as a song, and as a theme for the game itself as you progress through the gameplay.

Overall, this was a Platformer well-made. At the price it’s at rn, I would recommend giving it a try!

Alpha Runner is a game that it claims to be...a runner and the first one made by its developer. It's a game about running on a path and collecting what I would call "sparklies" (for lack of a better name). You grab a "sparkly" and you get some further path to cross. Stand too long on a platform and it will erode beneath you. You will also need to watch out for spikes, falling hammers, and minigames that may kill you (one's a lenient alien shooter, the other's a brutal command matcher).

Though this game isn't exactly hard, it does prove to be a challenge with a few of its achievements (which are a bit grindy...like the "Get ____ score in a single run" achievements). You'll also be granted 3 modes, an endless classic mode, a hard mode (which flips the screen when you get far enough), and a time trial that has a somewhat short and challenging path and a timer (don't worry, it doesn't tick down. It just sees how long it takes you to beat it). Of course, it does provide a challenge by providing a character randomly chosen from a list of characters to utilize...some are useless, some have perks.

I can't say I particularly enjoyed Alpha Runner. Granted that it's a simplistic runner for a low price tag (asking price is $1, sales price is $0.50). Personally, this game feels like it's at a maximum value of $0.15, but that's just me... Get this game if you feel you're up for a somewhat easy 100%. Avoid if you simply don't like anxiety pressures or runners.

Alpha runner is a nice little & minimalistic platformer. The levels assemble randomly after each powernode you collect.There are random characters, random bosses and some traps like spikes and hammers. The game also support different game modes but which are just for tryout purposes. Like upside down, timemode or practice mode. So the achievements turnout easy except the grinding 1k deaths and 100 rainy days.

After some additional gameplay I've decided to change my review.

This is a randomly generated platformer game where you need to collect white blocks that generate next tile for you to jump on.

You start with randomly picked character, some of them has special abilities:
- white guy - no special abilities
- sportsman - faster movement
- spaceman - so called moon-jumps
- double-jump man - well, ability to do double jump
- Elvis - nothing special
- guy that automatically picks white blocks - probably the most useful

What is somewhat weak is that those characters are choosen randomly - when you die you start off with a different one. This makes this game totally random.

Tiles that you step on slowly disappear, probably to make the player move his character ever forward (well, at least forward meaning collecting blocks). From time to time you can find a space rocket and start a minigame like Space Invaders where you can shoot about 3-4 UFOs and big UFO for additional points. That would be good unless that minigame wasn't so slow - the rocker starts, it floats up for some seconds and then you can shoot some ufos and then, after shooting a boss ufo, you fall down for some seconds. That is really too long!

This is clearly a ladder based game, where the only motivation is to beat the high score.

Pros:
- gameplay is really fast, respawning takes about a second
- characters with special abilities give some fun to the game
- minimalistic graphics fit the type of the game

Cons:
- boring
- no point in playing this game other than beating the high-score - no unlockables, no nothing
- those special characters are picked up randomly thus if you want to have a particular one you need to loose with the character that was chosen randomly until you get what you want

Overall - I don't think that this game is really interesting. Maybe it's not my type of game, maybe it's just boring. You can check it yourself but I would recommend getting it during some Steam Sale.

Alpha Runner is a runner game where you have to collect white square in each platform to advance. The game has 3 modes in total.

The game looks simple yet good enough for the price tag. The main menu might look a bit weird, but hey, the game is cheap after all.

The game has 3 modes in total: normal, speed run, and mlg. The normal mode is your usual endless runner with some mini games in it, the speed run is a mode where you finish a lap as fast as possible, while the mlg mode is kinda like normal mode without the mini games and sometimes you will be flipped upside down with reversed control. Actually, the game also has tutorial mode that is like a practice room to play with the obstacles that you want.

I said that this is a runner game, but it's actually not like your ordinary runner game. You have to go to a direction (either left or right) to another "platform" while avoiding obstacles in that platform (if there's any). However, you can't stand in the platform for too long or the platform might disappear.

As you progress farther to the game, there will be some mini games that you can play. The first one is kinda like rythm game where you have to press z, x, or c button whenever the text passes on the middle bar while the second one is a space shooter like game where you have to shoot UFOs. They give a lot of points although it takes some retries to figure out what to do. The second mini game takes a long time to start and finish though.

There are several characters with different abilities. You have to figure out what abilities each character has by yourself. To be honest, i still don't know most of them. These characters will be randomly selected as you play so if you're attached to a certain character, you have to keep on dying until the game selects that character.

Strangely, the game has no exit button so you have to close by pressing Alt+F4 (or perhaps it is escape button, i'm not really sure). It sometimes didn't work though and the first time i did it, it's not really closed properly and was still running in background. I didn't notice it before i realized that the game had recorded me for playing the game for 3 hours even though i only played like 1 hour.

I finished the 200 point achievement in like 1 hour so the rest of the achievement feel like super grindy for me (and the game is already boring enough after you played it several times anyway).

Lastly, the game has a performance issues. Sometimes the character will move too fast and sometimes it will move too slow. This happens a lot after i cancel the alien shooter mini game. it might also because of my old laptop though.

Cons:
- No character selection
- Performance issues

Alpha Runner is as simple and retro of a game you can get. All you do is grab orbs (of sorts) and then the orb moves to the next platform. The level is one continuous level that never ends. It's all about seeing how many orbs you can collect while navigating your way through the procedurally created levels. You are faced with spikes on the floor, circular saws, pounding "boulders" and of course the open space between platforms. The game, again, is quite simple though it can fulfill that casual gaming itch you may have. I wouldn't recommend this game if it wasn't for the dev taking my idea. Originally your character would change, graphically. However, the gameplay wouldn't change at all. I offered that he give each graphical character a unique trait, and he took off with it. Now you randomly get a different graphical character with a specific skill like double jumping, fast movement, etc...

If anything, get this game to support the dev for being open minded to suggestions and listening to those who play their game.

If this game were a free Flash game, it would be one of those games that you probably play for about ten minutes, once, and then you never come back to it, but you feel like it was a reasonable way to spend ten minutes, and everything would seem normal.

For some reason, though, it's a game on Steam that costs money. And it has 'Very Positive' reviews. I'm not sure what's going on here. The gameplay is minimalistic not in the elegant sense but in the "there's no depth to it at all" sense. The collision is wonky. Hitboxes are unclear. Even the jump is so small that it's difficult for the automatically generated endless level to create much of anything interesting. Though the different characters shake up the tedium a bit (and even then, practically all a different character means is that you jump differently), it still feels pretty much the same every time after not very long at all. I mean, it's not terrible. But it's not good either, and certainly not worth spending money on.
