Anyway, a simple explanation is that while you are holding the gravity orb it will change your center of gravity towards any surface you are walking on. As long as there is a smoothly curved ledge then it allows you walk on walls and ceilings. When you stop holding the gravity orb your gravity will reset to normal.
Here's a short walkthrough of Forlorn Ruins from about four years ago to demonstrate the gravity orb in use:

To be honest, Forlorn Ruins is one of my favorite areas in the game despite of being such a small area. Wall jumping and wall climbing are nice skills but being able to walk on ceilings gives a sense of freedom like you have no bounds or limits where you can go. Unfortunately the gravity orb is unique to the Forlorn Ruins and there won't be anything quite like that later in the game.

Yea, and because it is so small it makes the gravity part seem long. Also, if you're looking for an easter egg, go to the part with the lasers and look at the background once you reach the bottom. It is near the life cell secret area if that makes it easier.
Worst part for me was the fact that when you go upside down ori moves opposite the way you are pressing... The first platformer I ever played a ton of had it make sense, when upside down you press right and you move... guess what... RIGHT not LEFT. and with side gravity up/down were used to move and omg it was actually playable.
I got kinda frustated in the Forlon ruins though but luckily I am kinda cheesing it by just triple jumping onto the next platforms.
