High Ping issues only in Smite.
Hey, new player here. I've been trying out Smite and so far I've had really high ping compared to anything else, including other online games and servers around Steam.

My ping is ranging up to a whole 800, while averaging as low as 500... While with a lot of TF2 servers for example, I'd have as low as 90 ping, and an average of ~160. Even with some sort of peer-to-peer connection on other games with a friend that has a slow internet, I'd have an average of 240ms. Never something as laggy as what I get on Smite.

I've checked around to see if it's just that my internet is coincidentally being slow when I try to play this game, but both my laptop and my desktop get really low pings outside Smite even if I test while in-game. I've also tested resetting my desktop's wifi adapter or the router itself, but my ping remains the same.

Recently I tried to move to the Latin America North servers to see if my ping would be better as I do live there (instead of staying on North America to be able to play with my friend properly). My ping was, really strangely, almost the same. The only difference was that it would reach as high as 700 instead of 800. Once again I tested my ping on other things while in-game and I'd get low pings everywhere else.

I'm not sure what could be affecting Smite this much by now.

Ping is the time it takes to send a request to a server, and recieve a response from it.

The ping might be high because you happen to be far away from the server you are connecting to (for example, the other side of the country). It could be fluctuating because it is taking different routes to get to that server, or there is a problem with one of the routers along the way (not necessarily you or HiRez though).

Comparing to other games is pointless unless the servers are in the same place because of this.
The fact that you have low ping/good connection outside of smite - such as watching youtube - kind of demonstrates that.

For reference, I live in the northwestern-most part of Venezuela, just to compare distances.

Smite's North America servers are scattered around the US, but an official reply from a HiRez employee gave some examples of servers being commonly used: https://www.reddit.com/r/Smite/comments/2w1jwx/where_are_the_servers_located/comuu4y?st=ittbimsb&sh=820f9af0

My comparison in servers for TF2 was servers around the US, the best ones being in New York, for example, with the lowest pings. HiRezWeiss mentioned servers in NY, and my ping is being literally 5 times on average than what I'd get on the TF2 servers (average of 90 to 100 ping).
My friend is from Alabama, which is slightly closer to me, and I have that ~240 ping I mentioned during peer-to-peer connections on other games, while he has a slow ISP averaging 600 kb/s download speed and an upload speed of ~50 kb/s.

Overall, on Smite, North America's servers give me a much worse connection than anywhere else (500 ping average). I tried to swap to Latin America North's servers, and only had a reduction of 100 max ping (same 500 ping average). The latter's servers should be giving me a better connection, not literally give me almost the same thing. There's also the really rare case I've had where my ping goes as low as 350, but that doesn't last very long at all. And that's still slower than other servers outside Smite.

So yes, this all just sums up to say that something about Smite in specific is making my connection to the servers be much slower than it should be.

Bump. My ping is still awful even after the bonus weekend is over (which should mean the servers shouldn't be at heavy load if anything right now), and my internet is going just fine. I'm only getting these pings on Smite specifically.

SA servers locate in Brazil i believe and NA servers are located in Chicago which are both quite far from where you live. but I think 500 ping is pretty high regarding server distance. do you play with wi-fi or have internet cable connected? that maybe the different. Try to disable(or complete re-install or delete) anti virus before starting smite to see if it works, sometimes anti virus do slow smite.

I'm not sure about the South America servers' location, but an official HiRez employee already confirmed the NA servers are scattered around the US, including New York.
I do play with Wi-fi, but my internet is going pretty fast either way outside Smite, as I said before with ping comparisons for servers around New York.
Also my desktop's anti-virus has been disabled since the beginning.

I actually don't have a way to use ethernet on my desktop anymore since a few months ago. But still, the difference in ping on any game when using ethernet or wifi was minimal, on other games. I'll try to see if I can do some things about my desktop's wifi adapter and reply here again sometime tomorrow.

Do you have a reference for the Smite servers being scattered across the US? Because I have been under the impression for a long time that the Smite servers were all in Georgia...

Look at my earlier post for a link of a HiRez Employee posting on the subreddit mentioning that subject.

Maybe, but unfortunately I can't really do that. The Ethernet port on my wall to reach my router is broken.

Also I've now installed Smite on my laptop (which to be honest has a bad wifi adapter, but my desktop is older), and I noticed a small difference in ping where it's certainly more playable, but it's still high pings compared to other games (350 ping average now). So far it might be that Smite's connection to the servers is "fragile" and would take any small flaw about my connection and make it worse than it should be.

Thanks. That is interesting that they would randomly have servers scattered around like that. I know Valve does that with TF2, but they at least display the location in the server name so you can more readily identify why you might have a higher ping...

Ok I have been having this issue for A F****** YEAR. No solutions, and I am telling you I tried EVERYTHING. I was SURE it was nothing to do with my computer since I have a 2016 Alienware, and this fixed it for me.

If you are using wifi, try the following:

in your windows cmd, type in

netsh wlan show settings

and one of the last things might say

Auto configuration logic is enabled on interface "Wireless Network Connection". if that's the case, then type in

netsh wlan set autoconfig enabled=no interface="Wireless Network Connection"

It should respond with

Auto configuration has been disabled on interface "Wireless Network Connection".

If it doesn't, then you might have mistyped your interface=" part. Check in your adapter settings, you might have Wireless Network Connection 2 or 3 etc.

Dude this is an extremely old thread. I have different internet by now, but I'm done with Smite.
And either way, I tried to play on ethernet eventually back there and had the same issues.
