But otherwise its really no different than, say Punkbustr, which is currently idling in my processes doing nothing because I haven't played a game that uses it in a while.
I however expect at the very least if I DELETE a game, all of this garbage is gone. Why would I want any patching service running eating up RAM on my PC when I have deleted said game?
48 to 70MB is also a lot of RAM all these little crap adds up and you wonder why your PC is using so much ram. And also note it even uses some VRAM
punkbuster is used for a huge amount of games though. And its ram usage is ultra tiny, not like this crap Hirez has running eating up to 70MB of ram and only works for their games alone. I could use punk buster for all the Battlefield games which I frequent most of the time just as I use VAC for a HUGE amount of games aswell so I have no issue having it running in the BG.
heroes of newerth has 0 cheaters because everything is handled serverside. And it too is a free MOBA
I expect the same from HIrez is all I am saying there is no need to have crap hidden and running in the background after I deleted their game, their service cannot be compared to Punkbuster and VAC. Noway in hell can you compare it.
Just imagine all the games on steam you are trying out and has a ton of crap in the BG.
This is another reason I now REFUSE to even as much as install a game without steamworks.
It is this very same reason I now only try out games that are strictly steamworks titles. Because I know VAC covers everything along with steamworks servers.
Provide me with the task/process name as well as a screenshot of it.
--------EDIT--------
After looking through processes, I do find a HiPatchService. That is simply for patching and does not collect information as a spyware would. Also, it can be disabled in under 3 seconds if you are even a little bit tech-savvy.
--------EDIT 2--------
Also thought I should mention that the process is in a Paused state when not being used (E.g. playing smite/starting smite client). That is not typical behaviour for Spyware.
Mods please delete this thread and ban this user, he's not going to play the game again anyway. No need for a thread spreading misinformation.
Will I have to launch a seperate DRM after steam to be able to play the game?
No, it is never scanning anything when the game is not running. This was proven 3 years ago. Just because it shows "active" in the Services tab doesn't mean its actually doing anything. If it was there would be constant CPU usage and HDD activity, which has been proven time and time and time again is NOT happening.
You can say its a mistake for the program to not be automatically uninstalled via the normal uninstall process, but it is not spyware.
STEAM is a retailer, no different than Best Buy. And since Hi-Rez does not use VAC, they have to still use their own anti-cheating tools. That tool is tied into a program that does multiple other things, like keep the game up to date. But it is in no wayt DRM as DRM only prevents the sharing of coyprighted material. Which simply doesn't exist in free to play games.
Don't believe the OP, he's a liar and there is no spyware of any kind that gets installed with STEAM. Open your Services tab in your task manager and you'll see about 200 programs listed, with most of them listed as "Active" and none of them are Spyware either.
Edit:
I've posted screenshots before in other threads, but its obvious they need to be posted again. Below are 3 screenshots from my system resource monitor, showing CPU, Disk and RAM usage. While the HiPatchService is listed as running, the only thing it's currently doing is reserving a whopping 53MB worth of RAM. Its CPU and Disk usage are both a fat 0.00% as I have not yet launched the game today since booting up my system.
And with zero CPU or Disk usage, that means that NOTHING on my system is being actively scanned and no informaiton being communicted back to Hi-Rez. The 53MB worth of RAM that is being reserved is simply how Windows works.
Want proof? Pay close attention to the dozens of other programs in those same lists that are all doing the exact same thing. My GeForceExperience, the program for my HP printer, and my personal favorite the ipodservice.exe. I have never owned an iPod while I've owned this computer, so no iPod has ever been connected to it. I did have an iPhone, but that was over a year ago. And that ipodservice.exe is only one of several Apple related services and/or processes that are running. And no iTunes does not run with Windows and I haven't touched iTunes in over a month.

Devs need to take responsibility and understand that gamers are already bombarded with tons of useless crap as it is. And we don't need all this extra crap after we have decided to remove the game.
heroes of newerth is a MOBA and requires none of this, it just works. I think the Devs could take a page from HON's book is all I am saying.
The problem is most people don't use the official uninstaller from Hi-Rez, which is what causes stuff like this to remain on your system. But at no time is it ever doing anything "fishy", as I 100% proved in my last post. Even with the game installed on my system HiPatchService was not actually doing anything, regardless of it being listed as "active".
That's because "active" just means its loaded in my system RAM, which Windows does all on its own with any program that is used frequently. And since I play SMITE every day, HiPatchService is used every day, so Windows keeps it loaded in my system RAM. And yes that includes after restarts. Because that's exactly how Windows has handled RAM for years.
Stay far far away from this company
HAHAHA, these lies are getting funnier every single day!
Why would i lie on something that actually happend to me .... I used to play tribes vengence long ago and thought id give the never version a try on steam so i downloaded it and played it a few times . After i noticed a new process i followed it to the games main folder (hirez iirc) only to find smite in the folder , a game in which i NEVER downloaded . After i seen Smite appear on my pc without my permission i deleted all hirez content from my pc .
Also i looked at my old review(2014) and remembered that my geforce experience program (game optimizer of sorts) also detected this game on my pc which i never downloaded . At the time i also scanned pc several times with various virus/spyware/malware scanners which nothing came up so it proves that it was done silently by hirez to get players playing the game.
Why lie? Because all you Tribes and Global Agenda players have been spreading lies because you have a grudge with Hi-Rez over pulling support for your old games that weren't making them any money. There is simply no way your copy of Tribes automatically download SMITE without any permission from your what so ever. That would be illegal for them to do.
Also, doing a quick internet search for "Tribes downloaded SMITE" the ONLY result I can find is another thread you made on STEAM last year. And in the 2 pages of replies in that thread not a single person responded claiming the same thing happened to them.
Sure you and other people who don't know who computers work went on bashing the HiPatchService.exe as some sort of malicious program, which its not and I've proven its not in this very thread. But if Tribes was really downloading SMITE to player's PCs without their permission, there would easy to find threads on the issue.
Yet the only one that exists is your's. The only other mentions I can find that talk of both SMITE and Tribes has to do with the launcher Hi-Rez released during the SMITE beta that works across all of their games. If you have multiple Hi-Rez games on your system that launcher will update any of them that need it before launching the game you want to play. But all launchers, including STEAM and Blizzard, do the exact same thing.
So, again, SMITE was never downloaded without your permission. You may have gotten a prompt via the launcher that advertised it, and you clicked OK without realizing it, but at no time did one Hi-Rez game download a different Hi-Rez game without your permission.
Edit:
Missed on post in your thread from last year, but someone back then said the EXACT same thing I just said now. That the launcher prompts you asking if you want to download SMITE, and that you obviously clicked OK without bothering to pay attention to what you were doing.
I NEVER spread lies and never knew of this company until i DL tribes:ascend off steam . I only played it maybe 3 times which i didnt care much for it due to long queues and in game problems so that totally debunks your whole grudge for pulling support for old games .
I have worked with computers my whole life and never encountered legit companies pulling crap like this one did with smite so do not tell me what i know and do not know . I play blizzards games (several in fact) and not once did it EVER download a product i didnt want and same goes with steam games. I never gave permission for smite to be downloaded yet i somehow find it only due to it appearing in geforce experience and also tracking it in process in task manager.
