NOT A MOBA
Smite is by no means- to no extent of the imagination- within the blossoming MOBA game genre, however, by some stray mistake, some people actually classify it AS a MOBA, which is astonishing in an age where information can be so easily collected. The underlying, soul factor that seperates SMITE from DOTA and League of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, is that its not the most boring game on the planet. You can, infact, play smite, and enjoy it. Smite also requires some level of actual strategic combat to win, making it as far from the MOBA genre as you can get.

Its a moba, it has lanes, it has towers, it has minions, it has every single component a moba has but in the third person perspective, wich imo, gives it a fresh gameplay, since theres some abilities that arent possible in the top view perspective of other mobas (thor's ultimate and others)

The easy part i dont bite either, the genre mob , no matter how easy it is, still has a steep learning curve compared to other mp games, you have to learn the characters, the synergy, the flow of the game, the laning phases etc, but sure its easier than dota if thats what your saying.

Let me explain you the definition of a moba game:
MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena) is a new gaming genre. Spawned from early forums from the custom map for Starcraft called {Aeon of Strife} and Evolved in to the most recent Defense of the Ancients or "DotA". The objective of the MOBA Genre is for each team to destroy the opponents' Base, heavily guarded structures at opposing corners of the map. Players use powerful units known as heroes, and are assisted by allied heroes and AI-controlled fighters called "creeps". As in role-playing games, players level up their hero and use gold to buy equipment during the mission.

Each human player must control one Hero, a powerful unit with unique abilities. In DotA-Allstars, players on each side choose one of ninety-five heroes, each with different abilities and tactical advantages over other heroes. The scenario is highly team-oriented; it is difficult for one player to carry the team to victory alone. Nevertheless, some heroes, given enough time, can change the outcome single-handedly, while countering the opposing team's heroes.

Because the game play revolves around strengthening individual heroes, it does not require one to focus on resource management and base-building, as in most traditional real-time strategy games. Killing computer-controlled or neutral units earns the player experience points; when enough experience is accumulated, the player gains a level. Leveling up improves the hero's toughness and the damage it can inflict, and allows players to upgrade their spells or skills. In addition to accumulating experience, players also manage a single resource, in most cases: gold.

The typical resource gathering is based on a combat-oriented money system; in addition to a small periodic income, heroes earn gold by killing hostile units, base structures, and enemy heroes. Using gold, players buy items to strengthen their hero and gain abilities. Certain items can be combined with recipes to create more powerful items. Buying items that suit one's hero is an important tactical element of the scenario.

Most MOBA Games offer a variety of game modes, selected by the game host at the beginning of the match. The game modes dictate the difficulty of the scenario, as well as whether people can choose their hero or are assigned one randomly. Many game modes can be combined (for example, an easy difficulty level and a random hero pick), allowing more flexible options.

As you might see, Smite has all of these elements called above and is similair to dota and LoL, this makes smite a MOBA. And ''Smite also requires some level of actual strategic combat to win, making it as far from the MOBA genre as you can get.'' are you going to say to me dota and LoL dont require some level of actual strategic?

Please stop this low level bait.

Just because you don't find it boring doesn't mean it's not a moba. This topic is just a waste of space used to show dislike for other mobas, therefore not really contributing to the community like discussions are supposed to.

Let me explain you, The key factor in the definition of standard mobas is one that smite follows only so far, yes, the general basis of both poses extreme similairities, however, smite, unlike the tradition theme of the genre, is actually decent to play, you dont want to shoot yourself, you need to understand some of it, and the gameplay is ACTUALLY enjoyable- an aspect that greatly seperates it from the genre in every way.

By Definition Smite is a MOBA it is a Multiplayer Online Battle Arena, it isn't a traditional moba by any stretch of the imagination, but it is a MOBA

Because there is no reason to read anything else with a title like that. Anyone who claims SMITE isn't a MOBA either doesn't know what a MOBA is, or is just some LoL/DotA rager.

If you say the game is enjoyable, why are we discussing if its a moba or not! Lets play x3!
ANIM Rawrs 2015 年 9 月 13 日 上午 1:09
He is right this is not a moba. This is a enjoyable kick ass moba thats the big difference.
Strider 2015 年 9 月 13 日 上午 5:21
Lol whether you find it "fun" or not doesn't determine what genre it is or isn't. Having an opinion on something doesn't change what it is. Going by your logic; if you didn't like a particular food item (let's say onions) but you do like another (let's say potatoes), you can't just say that onions aren't food because you don't like them.

Not that it matters what genre it is, but Smite is a moba whether you like it or not. It is marketed by the people who make the game as a moba. The definition of a moba matches exactly with what Smite is about as detailed above which you apparently didn't read. It is referred to by everyone from fans to reviewers to critics as a moba. You're simply factually wrong and no amount of silly opinions is going to change that. Smite on Wikipedia [en.wikipedia.org]

1) Whether or not you enjoy it, doesn't determine what genre it is.
