SMITE
Forced to play Gods?
I love ranked games and compete, but one of the huge turn offs in games like League of Legends is that the moment you get into ranked games you are forced to play a certain role/God/Hero. Is this the cause in SMITE? Cause I like to choose what to play not what my team wants me to play

In ranked games, this game suffers from the typical team meta, you will get people asking you to change your character and you will get people that completely throw off your team.

For example a team comp may look something like this

Hunter>Support>Mage>Jungler>Warrior

But what you'll actually end up with is

Hunter>Support>Hunter>Jungler>Hunter

And people get really upset if you don't follow the first format.

It is unfortunate but it happens.

yea sadly, like every MOBA the mentality is "IF ITS NOT LIKE SPL IT SUX SO DONT BE A SCRUB AND PICK THAT". Typcal noobz thinking they will win because they copy X player.

Ok, you won't go full support team, but people are definitly lacking imagination / skill to do something different. 2hunters was "woooooow thats so baddddddd" then pros started to do 2 hunters, then it was "woooooooow thats so goooooooddddddd, what u dont pick a 2nd hunter?? scrubbbbbbb", and now we see that less it's back to "wooooooow so baddddddd".

It's endless and the definition of every ranked mobas.

Like any competitive game, when you get into ranked gameplay, there will be a certain meta of favored ways to play and unfavored ways to play. That being said, with Smite having a smaller character pool to draw from and a different style of gameplay from League, the meta does not seem to be quite as strict IMO, but that all depends on how serious you get with ranked gameplay and how much it bothers you if someone questions your choices.
the meta seems way more open than LoL there are still roles but each role has more gods that do well in them but there are also gods that people think are too bad for ranked... thats one of the reasons i dont like ranked
The normal meta is in fact: 1 Hunter, 1 Mage, 1 Assassin, 1 Warrior, 1 Support. ALTHOUGH, even in rankeds in Smite people dont normally do that, I have seen doing rankeds with the jungler being a warrior, the solo laner a mage, the supp a warrior, or even a healer. So no, people in Smite are not stuck in the original Meta, in fact theres tons of combinations that work sometimes better than the original one. So talk with your team, and choose taking in consideration the enemy team chosen gods and what role/god each one of you are more comfortable with.
In ranked its not about having fun, its about winning and climbing the ranks until you are at the top. And it so happens some gods are naturally better then others so you either pick the good ones or get flamed, this is NOT exclusive to smite. This happens in every ranked mode of moba's due to everyone wanting to win. Which i see is a very valid point. So don't expect to have as much as fun as always. I reccomend learning the top tier gods if you want to play ranked. Scince you will most likely be playing only top tier. It's a amazing game and one of my all time favourites, its just moba's in general have the same attitudes to ranked.

All that said, I still have to recommend Smite to you if you dislike the all the toxic meta-based bashing in other MOBAs, because from what I've seen, Smite has the largest "casual" community of any MOBA I've played at least. The fact that it has multiple working (and popular) game modes means that if you dislike the ranked scene, there's still plenty of fun to be had smashing around in constant deathmatch team fights in Arena or Assault, and there's always Joust or Siege if you want something a tad less meta-driven than Conquest. Plus, Smite also does random Game Mode of the Day options where there's a lot of URF type high-cooldown, high-mana pool games as well as everyone-is-the-same-god games.

So don't let the fact that there is still a ranked meta push you away from Smite; it still has plenty to offer.

Conquest always seems toxic and imbalanced, combine that with people going you play the warrior, well I don't play warrior, well to bad because the 4 of us are locked in with our little club of we do whatever we want.

Try heroes of the storm, at least there people can be reasonable if you want to play hero league. The competitive community here is just as toxic as LoL.

Hos got boring kind of fast. Still had douchebags too... almost like there is going to always be a certain percentage of douchebags in every community.
Must be a human thing.

I had one of those games yesterday where people couldn't decide what to pick. So I picked Ao because jungle was still available but didn't lock and someone who had picked a lane switched to Bastet and locked.
So I locked as well; being called a quote "f***ing noob" - if you want a guardian or midlaner or whatever either stay with what you called or pick the guard yourself next time. During the game I proceeded to loose the T1 midtower till I had enough levels to literally eat the enemy team alive (seriously ppl - get beads/aegis or Magi's against Ao and stop complaining).
Last time i checked, no one pointed a gun at you.
When im in a game where the team asks me to take a certain role, a role i dont want to be, then i pick a god that fits the role if needed but can also do whatever it is i want to do.
Good example is Bellona, she can be a tank, a wariror, a ganker
Hades, can be a tank and a ganker
Oding, can be ADC and Guardian and Jungler
and so on
Even in Arena I'd feel disgusted to be the fourth mage which is a shame since I really wanna grind that Nox mastery. But it's very rarely that I see people complain about your pick since they instalocked themselves to begin with.

I find arena to be the worst case, every 4/10 games I have to play ares, because my team threaten to report me for not picking my 'role' which happens to be guardian because they all instalocked mage/asassin.. They get their loki and kulkulkhan insta-lock, and Me or some annoyed player thirsty for masteries gets ****-blocked. But the point you make on them not complaining probably varies with your mmr, it just sucks no matter what if your not in a party of five you can't all play what you want unless you want to get flamed by the toxic part of the community. I got Ares to mastery 6, by only playing him on arena.

Yeah, it kinda is a human thing... Anywhere you have competition, you're going to have ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. As I said, the thing I like about Smite is that it actually has several other game modes outside of the ranked ones where you can mess around, and they still have about the same number of people playing them, unlike DOTA, LoL, or HoS where pretty much everyone is playing the same game mode so you can't avoid running into the "wanna-be-pros".

Also, I've played HotS too and it can also be toxic, but it has an even smaller character pool than Smite, which makes it even easier for the dev team to keep the meta more balanced, so that makes for fewer differing opinions on what you can and can't play. So don't worry, its meta will get there also, especially given how much of an emphasis they are putting on esports. But yeah, it didn't have enough to it to make me stick around, in my opinion.
