Learning how to item build:
I am learning how to item build/shop for items in the game. I normally choose from the recommeneded items, but even so get complaints on my nooby shopping abilities. Any general advice would be good. I generally play Ra (don't have the God Pack) and a friend of mine enjoys playing Skaldi and Freya. General advice would be great, but there are the gods we play if you need those to help. Thanks a ton.

It all depends on who you're fighting against.
Basically, you build the items that help you counter the gods that you're playing against and what they're building. Divine Ruin if you're playing against Hel for example.

It all depends on HOW you want to build your god. It depends on the context of each individual match.

For starters, memorize what all the items do. And then after that build the items that will be most helpful in your current match up.

As a Ra, you're gonna want cooldown, pen and power and maybe a little bit of armor, generally.

Learning how to build on your own isnt easy at first. Take your time and learn what you can. Pay attention to what others are building when they play a god you like and if it works for them consider trying it yourself. Like the others i tend to go for Smitejunkies for the pro builds. Watch a few streams on twitch and ask the pros questions when you can and see why they build what they build. EnVyUs players like Allied, Weak3n, and Incon (hes no longer with EnVyUs but still pro) are all usually pretty cool about helping with builds and explaining why they build the way they do and start the matches how they do.

Check builds from http://www.smitefire.com/ and just play Smite really. With experience, you'll know what items to use in different situations.

Watch some youtube videos who also explain why and for what. I personally think if you play 1 vs 1 wil make you learn how to counter better than any other mode. My recommendation, watch Samdadude and/or Bennna

I am fairly new as well, and the best way for me to learn is just trial and error. Yes the smite builds sites are very helpful, but you have to chose items that are comfortable for your gameplay and style. Do not pay attention to people trolling you about your builds, there will always be nerd ragers and such. Have fun =]

I'd recommend tiermonster.com, smite.guru, and smitejunkies.com (though smitejunkies.com is a bit sparse for Season 3 it seems). Smitefire.com is nice too, but I haven't been super impressed by the quality of builds there. I typically formulate a build based off of the "pro advice" from smitejunkies, then check with the statistical "popular item builds" (especially for specific modes) on tiermonster.com and smite.guru.

If you aren't planning ahead for a build (using the God Builder tool for instance), it's usually fine to go with the recommended or popular items actually in the store itself, though those don't always help with build order and obviously give no explanation for what is useful in certain situations... That's where YouTube or Steam guides can be helpful.

I also highly recommend just asking on these discussion forums as there are plenty of us who will give their opinions and argue out pros and cons for you and you can just glean the results. :steammocking:

^^ stays updated to the current meta I believe. So this is the best place imo to quickly see what people are building in different modes with different gods, instead of poring over a dozen guides to maybe get a current build.

I do suggest you read a couple guides too on whichever character you are playing to learn combos and roles etc. at Smitefire.

The recommended items are ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. If you want to know what to build go into the "all items" tab and then popular tab. It will normally have the best items to build (not in any order)

Id heard he got hired for them but i thought he was still on the team as an analyst or streamer or something. Thanks for the info though. Ive lost track of EnVyUs's new roster since Weak3n got kicked. I mainly just follow the players instead of the team
