but since we are talking about smite here and chances are solo queue people will lock anything they feel like without any cohesion on top of people not actually caring about any teamplay then yes, he will not be that effective.
but with actual team play and depending on the picks he can become the most cancerous thing you can go up against. he is really beneficial when paired with aa gods and also against aa gods on top of doing enough damage and the ability to avoid a lot of damage which makes him extremely efficient on harassing mages and other squishy, low mobility gods.
so basicaly your arguement is invalid because we need to look at how each god does on solo queue against premade teams, what they provide in combination with other gods on the team, what the enemy team has and how well they can play together and last but not least how skilled is the player using that god.
as i said, you can't just say x god is bad for a role. the reason is there are too many variables to consider on a game with such high number of options. khepri is considered one of the best guardians but he becomes totaly useless if the enemy team has executes. it's all situational.
Fafnir is awful. All of his scaling sucks (10-30%+ MP) and every time you buy an item, you screw over the only added protection you've got as a guardian.
He's extremely reliant on his ult which means you want to build him with CDR (limiting his effectiveness as a guardian further) and even then once it's over, he's going to be stunning himself over and over once it ends, preventing you from being close to enemies.. Which also removes your ability from using the secondary leap (one of the few of his positives) as an offensive & pursuit measure unless you want to die.
He also has the "no item proc" limitation when his ult is active that locks you out of doing some auto attack/warrior shenanigans with him.
More or less only meme stuff you can pull off with the guy is by speccing into his buff and pocketing a hunter but at that point, you're not playing Fafnir anymore.
also, as of rn, the auto attack item procs are bugged so they activate
you just don't know how to play him
this is my favorite guardian and he's A tier. I can go forever about this
