Bulwark is god for magic defence if you need it, plus the shield for survival.
Otherwise just go Warrior Tabi, and power/pen items. Things like Titans Bane and Brawlers. That seems to work well for me.
Level the 2 first, then the 1. Save your ult for finishing the enemy or falling back depending on the situation. His 1 makes everythign else he does do more damage, so try hitting that first (and catching the echos for the damage boost).
His ult is good, not useless at all. You just need to hit multiple people where you can for the extra damage. Hades, Poseidon, and a few other characters are good at helping with this. Since it is all team fights in Arena, chances are they will be grouped up a bit anyway, so those types of characters are useful.
Playing him more ability base has helped a lot. Been using a build of Transcendence, Warrior Tabi, Jotun, Void Shield, Titans Bane and Bruisers Beatstick. At least now I'm able to get past 10k player damage. But still not really doing that great.
Maybe I'm just terrible at this but his ult is just not cutting it for me. I get that its supposed to do more damage if you hit multiple gods with it but even with their recent buff to air time he moves so slowly up there and it goes by so quickly that I often have to "waste" one of the swoops just to get in close enough for the kill, even if I "leaped" into them with the 3. I use the term "leap" loosely here.
More often than not the ult is reserved as an escape - since even when I use it more aggressively it never seems to do enough damn to matter.
I have a tricky time landing the 2, though that could be ironed out with more practice. It seems a bit too short and "slow" to actually hit. I had a tough time getting the hang of the Nox combo too but that gradually got better the more I played her. Hopefully this will be the same.
I'm going to keep it up for a while to see if I can't get to grips with him. I want to love him but so far honestly its been feeling like a mistake whenever I play as him - like I could had been doing better had I been any other god. I think even my "best" game with him still wasn't much better than one of my previous "worse" games with any other god.
Maybe I'm just not cut out for assassins. Susano though is another ability-based assassin and I love him (despite the repeated nerfs). At least with him I feel like I have some mobility. I'm just not getting that with Cama. I'll hang in there though. Thanks for the advice.
Well you picked a very unfair comparison. Of course people would rather have Ares etc plus Zeus etc.
But that is Warrior/Guardian and a mage. Camazotz is an assassin. In my experience he doesn't need help killing (when I play him at least). I have played him in Arena and Clash, and every time got either most kills or most assists, and near top damage, if not most damage.
He is designed to be mostly ability based (with the occassional auto thrown in as usual). The build you have looks good, Breastplate of Valour would be useful too as a defence item if you needed it (plus the early mana and CDR). It's fairly close to what I use, I don't tend to stack with him, but Transcendence is a good item on him if you can get the stacks.
You need to use your 1, and catch the echos to get the bonus damage on everything else, so it should be the first thing you use. The 2 does high damage, especially agaisnt mages, assassins, and hunters, so use it on them and avoid tanks (unless they build damage).
Use his ult when you are close, not if you need to catch up. It works far better when there is someone who can pull them together a bit (Ares, Poseidon etc). But otherwise in a normal teamfight scenario, you should be targeting the back line anyway, even if they aren't grouped.
The 2 should get better with practice, it is a little tricky with it's slow movement, you have to be close, or lead it more than expected. Eventually you should be able to hit it at longer range as you get used to it though.
I do use the ult when Im close, just that by time I get up there I might end up having to chase them because they scattered. Whether Im right on top of them or not doesn't usually seem to matter though. I smacked a Cupid around with it once and he didn't seem to bat an eyelash. Same with others but he stuck out the most since hes "just a hunter".
Either way I'll keep trying and hopefully get the hang of using his abilities.
Warrior Tabi
Jotuns
Void Shield
Bloodforge
Breastplate of Valour
Situational Item
The order changes depending on if I am ahead, taking too much damage, or need soemthing else at that point. For instance, against a full physical team I would probably forgo Jotuns, get Breastplate and Void Shield, then Jotuns. Or I might get magical defence instead for high damage magical teams.
Situational Item could be Titans or Brawlers depending on the heals (Aphro, Hel, Herc etc).
Initially one of the first times I went with for him was Bloodforge. It made sense ot me at the time because he is an assassin so I figured that would translate to some up-close melee attack, and having more lifesteal in his kit seemed to compliment him.
However, for me anyway, it was never working out. Unless Bloodforge also increases the lifesteal of his abilities I simply do not engage in enough melee for it to really give any benefit. It feels like a moot point to me to have lifesteal at all when all his damage is coming from abilities with only the rare melee tossed in when appropiate. That could be chalked up to my playstyle in general.
Same can be said with the bloodforge's passive. Doesn't do me a lot of good when I'm not the one getting the kills to trigger it.
Though its large bonus to physical damage is nice. I just tend to swap it with Titan's and then finish off with Bruiser.
I will however try again with the bloodforge now that I'm starting to understand the god a little better and see if works out. Thanks.
Bloodforge is mostly for the power and the shield on a kill imo. The power obviously works with the abilities, the lifesteal (both from the item and his kit) only work with basic attacks.
Physical lifesteal does not work on abilities, only magical lifesteal does that, so only Mages and Guardians get that. So Hunters, Warriors, and Assassins only get lifesteal through basic attacks.
I think his lifesteal from his kit is for Conquest jungle role mostly. Bear in mind that is what the game is balanced around, not arena. But even then, you probably buy bumba's mask in jungle to help with that anyway, so the lifesteal is more of a side thing, that doesn't make too much difference.
The bloodforge has been working out rather nicely too.
Though, I have to say, I really think his ult and his 3 need some work. I wish the 2 had a slightly longer reach but I can deal with that. His 3 though? I dont know what it needs, but it needs something. For an escape its pretty poor. But to engage the enemy? Also pretty poor. The ability is suppose to reward you for jumping into a group of enemies and yet its "land" radius just seems too small to me. Either it should deal more damage or it should have larger impact, imo.
The ultimate I dont know. I get its meant to encourage you to swoop multiples at once but even still there have been way too many cases where that squishy mage managed to survive all 3 and escape even though he was almost dead to start with. With only a bit of health left, sure, but still. It doesn't pack quite the wallop I wish it did considering that landing all three and getting the bonus isn't the easiest.
Currently the ult has been more useful to me as an escape, even though I try to use it aggressive. It just doesnt do enough damage. Maybe I wait too long to build into it, though.
Also, if Im having this much trouble doing damage with the ult in Arena I can only imagine how poor it must be in Conquest or other wide-open maps where the enemy team is not, generlaly speaking, more condensed together - making the bonus harder to acheive.
I'm a casual though, so take my opinion with a grain of salt.
Best thing to do is watch other people play him, though I imagine a lto of that will be Conquest Solo and Jungle, it might help in terms of builds or levelling abilities. Play him similar to the Jungle role in that sense as you have essentially the same role when it comes to fighting - take out the weaker gods.
