Gifting gems or skins

I wanted to gift a friend a skin that I could directly buy with gems, as I have some steam wallet funds for gems. But I cannot seem to either gift gems or skins to a friend in any way? I tried looking through Steam too, everything else can be a gift, but not gem purchases? Why are gift boxes the only thing you can gift?

TL;DR - I want to spend money, please let me. :/

You could either 1, give him one of those crappy gift boxes, then again those are 100% random so i advice against it. Or 2, just give him a steam gift card and tell him to buy some gems with that and the skin you wanted to gift him.

I know it sucks, no idea why they don't allow other people purchasing for others by buying them gems. Gifting gems would be stupid as people would make 100 alts (they still do to give themselves gift boxes), but no actual buying gems for others?, weird.

Yeah exactly. For a free game that monetizes micro-transactions, one would think that they would allow spending money on your friends in more than a super limited way. I was genuinely surprised it wasn't possible to buy a skin and during purchase click something like - gift to friend.
