Supports role? Roam or babysit?
It seems like no matter what I do as support I get yelled at if these don't go as planned.

In general my feeling is that once support has enough for boots and has their guardian blessing quest done he should leave duo and start to roam to allow ADC to solo farm.

I've had matches where I have been yelled at if I stay to babysit an ADC for stealing XP from them.

Ive also had matches where I have been yelled at for roaming because the ADC can not stay alive to help themselves. Dying literally any time they get back to lane, even with me there. In fact the latter can be worse, because I tend to go down with them. Also get yelled at for stealing XP from Mid and Jung.

To me roaming seems like that more safer choice, as if they are going to lose to their laning partner anyways, better to try and help other lanes.

Just played a game as Khrepri with a neith and ra who had queued together (Evident by the fact they switched roles right away without speaking in chat. Indicative of voice comms). The neith right off the bat kept getting killed by the enemy Skadi and Ganesh. When I started to roam the Ra starts berating me after he got killed by a Ganesh rotate while in the enemy jungle past our wards, to stay left lane. All while the Neith kept dying over and over even with me there.
It ended in an f6, but as far as I can tell, I didn't make a bad call. They were just bad, and its hard to support bad.

Typically you want to babysit your adc until they can clear waves without assistance, then you can start roaming between duo and mid lanes.

Usually by the time you get boots and have your stacks (sometimes before stacks too), your ADC should be fine on their own. There might be some exceptions to this though, depending on team comps.

Support will almost always be blamed for bad games though, and rarely credited for good ones. Pretty sure that's not a Smite specific thing either unfortunately.

You're always going to get yelled at when you're support, People blame others rather than themselves.

I won't even try to pretend to be a good support. Its hard to know when and where you are needed. Hard to know when to use your CC, and hard to peel when 2-3 people are being attacked at once in 2-3 different directions.

I can be good at helping chase down the enemy when they are trying to flee. But if it doesn't get that point, feel kinda useless.

Feel like I can help make a good team great, but can't really effect much in a match my team is on the back defensive.

As someone who's played several thousand support games. Generally you want to roam around lvl 5. However some adcs/ match-ups require you to stay in lane or gank your duo lane as a sort of pseudo jungler.

Once you have boots,m your ultimate and your adc can handle themselves in lane - you're good to rotate. Just be sure to get farm while you do so or else all the rotating is for nothing.

It's worse, they don't know how supports work and think everyone has magic aim. Sorry, but if i'm gonna heal you with Hel, the least you can do, is NOT zigzag over the entire lane while nothing is around. I hate those @sshats, especially when THEN they yell at you for not healing them.
