Just pointing out, SHE'S NOT ABILITY BASED. Her damage soley relies on her in-hands more so than any other HUNTER in the game. You build her for her passive, not her abilities. And crit does EXTRA damage from her passive now. She literally has one of the best late games, excluding Iza and Xbal, in the game right now.
[Start]
Hunters - Dev Gaunt - Pots
Finish off Dev [1]
Get Warrior Boots [2] <YOU DONT NEED NINJA TABI ON ARTEMIS
Get Ich [3]
Get Poisoned [4]
Get Frostbound [5]
Sell Hunters For Deathbringer [6]
Trade Ich for Wind-demon Or Crusher or Asi
This build is the build currently that can put her passive / damage to it's maximum potential.
She basically has Deathbringer rather than Rage now then (well, if they are CC'd)?
I'd also argue that getting Dev's Gloves T1, then finishing boots fully, THEN finishign Devs would be best, so that you can outrun people, or chase people down easier without having to rely on your 2.
Otherwise, I may try that build out next time I play Hunter.
Yeeeeep, that's why it's the best build to bring out her potential this update.
They actually nerfed it this update concidering how well it's being used in the SPL for other hunters. Less damage reduction / slow, but even so. The crit and slow along with frostbound (talking about the build I posted) effect constantly just brings out the best in her, imo.
I like testing out builds and items on certain characters, only reason I found the current build for Art. I always feel like you shouldn't shy away from trying different things. Gods, items, and what not. Because in the long run, in this current meta + version of the game, you can pretty much play anyone anywhere giving some exceptions of course. Shoot just tonight (7/28) I tried a build on Iza that consisted of Mail Of Renewal as the fourth item that I picked up and even with the lack of a potential damage another item would give me.. I was playing around the passive of the item and it let me fight / live much longer than expected. The game was dead even but I was putting out so much damage because of the survivability that I actually was able to just fight the whole team even after they respawned twice after lol.
I agree that she is not ability-based...but her passive is designed for an ability-based god. In order to make full use of it, Artemis has to invest in power/pen, or else the bonus 15 % won't do much damage.
The extra damage from crit does not change that removing 15 % inherent crit diminishes her overall dps by a great margain. Also keep in mind that her bonus damage is conditional, and can be hard countered by any ability that cleanses slows.
And the reason why Artemis has always had one of the better late games was because of her great attack speed steroids and ultimate that performs well in teamfights. Her late game is weaker than before, once again, because she has to build sub-optimal items to reach the same dps as before.
The build is designed to proc her passive, while insuring she has the damage to invest in. A majority of the time you will be getting Asi or Crusher (which both gives you flat pen; crusher giving you the power that Ich would normally give you with it's passive, where as Asi contains the lifesteal / 5% attackspeed that crusher doesn't have. ) With current building in this meta, even ability based gods utilized their in-hand damage more because you swing harder physically than ability. Yes they use their abilities effectively, combos, set ups, but the majority of the HUNTER's class damage relies wtihin in hands.
The fact she loses 15% crit, but given a passive that thrives on team fights because a majority of the team fights consist of set ups, doesn't really lower her DPS by any margain. The new passive actually is a step up, the only thing she loses is the the RNG early game that can cause one or two or three crits within split seconds of each other.
That being said, there are only a few characters that have abilities that cleanses slows, and it's not an overly amount that you should look into thinking that it's a hard counter. Loki, Hel... if we're naming just a few are indeed played but their clenses can be worked around and punished more than being safegaurds. No build should be defined on the possible "what ifs" but more so on the overall performance that it could provide. The loss of 15% crit, only makes it so that she doesn't hit a crit more consistently, but Poisoned + Deathbringer given the rng even at this point offers crits every other third shot (more if you're lucky which will be the case because of how RNG works.) The crits provide slow, and damage reduction from PS passive; while your passive is already being worked on ever other shot that isn't a crit as well because frostbound (which gives you slight survivability, because of the slow, so you can box safer than most.) Plus thinking of the character, she has a sterioid that both gives her movement speed and attack speed which only helps her damage output even more. And it's up enough during a fight that with the build and her abilities you can work around.
People took Art into games, with her old passive, and they either built her with power and pen or they built around her crit passive. Which both worked, both was proven to be fantastic with characters. She is a ticking time bomb, and can walk down anyone come late game. I'm confident in the crafting behind this build, when looking at it in general, and think that this provides her with everything she needs within the game. The power, the pen, the build in CC to help her passive, and her survivability while using it.
But that's honestly my opinion on the subject, everyone is entitled to their opinions and that's appreciated and you can only be respectful to their ideas and thoughts behind it. Plus it's always fun to have a friendly debate ^o.o^
There are quite a number of gods that have abilities that hard counter Artemis' passive: Thanatos (his 2), Merc (his 2), Hel (her 3), and Kuku (His 2). Keep in mind that gods that have cc immune ultimates flat out negates Artemis ultimate: Baron, Hercules, Medusa, Anhur, Sun Wukong, Kuzenbo, Rajinn, Hades and many more. Before, using a cc-immune in front of Artemis was a death sentence since the enemy was a sitting target while the 15 % crit chance allowed Art to deal insane damage. Now, she is a sitting duck with inferior damage output.
Considering that Artemis is squishy as hell, its quite easy to use your CC immune ultimate right after her 3 hits, then finish off with abilities or autos. Also remember that Beads and upgraded sprint counters Artemis hard; beads were always a problem for Artemis' ultimate, but now beads significantly reduces Artemis' damage output when used. Negating Artemis' passive is incredibly easy to accomplish no matter the team composition.
Artemis' old passive was better because it made her auto-attacks lethal at all stages, not when the character is afflicted with certain CC. Artemis' kit was explicitly designed to take advantage of the inherent crit to have crazy dps late-game; she synergized the best with crit which is why she was so highly valued in the meta. Now, she benefits from crit as much as any other god, except that her kit does poorly to set up those high damaging scenarios. She needs to be babysat the entire game. Even then, any other Hunter would be just as lethal if accompanied by a support with a lot of cc. I honestly see no reason to pick her outside of Hachiman, Xblanque, Iza, or Ullr; they outclass her in every way mainly because their high damage output is not locked behind some convoluted, conditional passive.
And how often do you see Thanatos, or Kukulkan? I've not seen them more than twice this season myself. Mercury and Hel have also been very uncommon (though I imagine Hel is picked up more due to Lono's currently).
The CC Immune ultimate has no effect on Artemis change. They could use CC immunity before her passive changed to avoid the ultimates stun and get away if needed. Yes, she could potentially crit before, but she still can. By the time those ultimates matter, and people start trying to fight back, you'll likely have SOME crit item built, and it won't matter so much especially since they won't be CC immune anymore, and you can slow/root them (poison star, her 3, or her 1).
The only consistent counter to her build (as in, anyone could build it) is Winged Blade and Sprint. But depending on the team, that won't matter much either if other people can hit their slows. Alternatively, a few people might not build it if Artemis is the only god dealing slows.
However, slows aren't the only way to trigger her passive. During team fights, you will likely have other forms of CC. People might use beads, but then it's down, and you play around that, as with any other god. Same goes for Sprint.
